There has already been a precedent set for requesting the removal of the swastika motif, and I'd be inclined to go along the route of consistency - not out of any desire to hide or cover up the past, but out of respect to the millions of people who suffered as a direct result of Nazi ideology.

I'll get back with a definitive and official response in due course.

Honestly, the Swastika was there long before the Nazi Regime, and I don't see any point in removing that OR this symbol.

There will always be some people insulted by something. The word "negro" might be so insulting to some African-Americans that they riot about the Philippines map because they are so insulted by it, even though the word was in use long before Slavery times.

This symbol is history - I was just asking for a little clarification from cairns. I actually met someone that was in the last push for Berlin, back in the day. Interesting fellow indeed, but my point is, I, as a Journalist representing a newspaper, was required to ask him about his time and how he feels about Nazi-Paraphernalia, and he feels fine. As an Ex-PoW, I find that his opinion really should matter about these things.

On top of that, MrBenn, look how long this map is up - to ask him to change the graphics now, while this issue hasn't been raised in this long, would be ridiculous and pure idiocy.

So are you telling me that you're going to deem that it can't be used?
EDIT: Or more importantly, that by using it i don't have any respecet for those who suffered?
I have already answered toward the CC guideline in another thread.
I am asking for a very good argument if you chose to ask for removal of that from this map when it has been there all along since the day it was first placed there.

What I said, was that I'm going to clarify official CC policy - which I have previously articulated thusly:
MrBenn wrote:Further to the swastika debate, I have had confirmation that the symbol should not be used on any CC maps. This represents official CC policy, and is not open to negotiation. Please use the German cross instead.

I'm sorry but i didn't get that out of your first message.
Please show me where this is written as official CC policy and i will respond that if that is so, then some-one hasn't done their job in the past when this map was first quenched, because this issue wasn't raised previously.

That is truth , the swastika was a symbol long before hitler used it. If a mapmaker were to use the symbol in a religous map would it be allowed then ? i also noticed that you appear to be sensitive to the people of germany which is understandable my grandparents are from germany and i take no offense to the symbol. But the hypocrisy i must point out is that although CC maybe sensitive to the swastika , They appear to ignore maps like the " crusade " which is currently in development. The middle east which is quenched and The battle for iraq. These maps i just mentioned also stir and will stir emotions in certain individuals and yet they are used by CC. :-s

The symbol used in this map is both the swastika and the eagle, the Luftwaffe symbol(from memory). The swastika by itself is not used.
In my opinion, the swastika should be allowed to be used on all maps, as it has psychological effects appearing menacing and scary. I'ts also quite disrespectful to the many that died under its banner(but that's my nazi side coming out).

I think the symbol should be kept, but if it is the only thing in the way between this and quenching, I would say to let it go.

Then why is this symbol advertisied as being used by the Waffen Panzer Officers? is you say it is a Luftwaffe symbol. :?
I can understand the thoughts on disrespect, but then i too have an argument that many sites on the internet still advertise this memorabillia for sale at over $100.

Just keep the symbol and replace the swastika with the CC star

Since the politically incorrect symbol is "out of line" with some people's thinking. and i am not happy about doing this, i am offering this new version so that the map does not get held up by the "powers-who-are".

I have PMed lanyards three times for the xml now. If i don't hear from him by the weekend, when i go on a week's break, i will do the xml myself so this map can proceed.

Re: Das Schloß [GR.GP] V40 - XML Complete

Postby cairnswk on Wed Sep 30, 2009 2:12 pm

Just a small wording adjustment to the legend concerning the helipads and helicopters. This was all i could fit in.

Each round Landeplatz A & B can assault each other, reset to 14 neutral & can
assault each Hubschrauber which resets to 60 neutrals. Hubschrauber A can
bombard parachutes Casey, Mills, Philby, & Timms; B bombards the other four.

Cairns, thanks for making this change - and for the record, the "powers-that-be" is lackattack, the big turtle himself.

Gees, the foundry shure has slipped back into its old slow as snail pace lately.
What happened to all the "indication" of a faster foundry, or is this a stall from the top??

Rome wasn't built in a day... All the while that there is a bottleneck at the end - more of a turtleneck - there will be some delays.

There are plenty of other maps steamrollering through the foundry - you'd be more than welcome to help push them along while you're waiting ;-)

No offense MrBenn, but i didn't come down in the last shower nor do i have woolley glasses. The foundry is still slow regardless of how long it took Rome to be built.
Like yourselves, i've given up making suggestions to others because they most likely ignore or present some reason why they don't want to implement the suggestion so i simply don't bother any more. You can only lead a horse so far.... ;)

If you check the 1st page you'll see that this map has its draft stamp from it's first incarnation. ;)
