Concise description:
Every time a user joins a game type which he has not played before, a pop-up warning is displayed. It would say something like:
"Warning: You are now entering a TRENCH game. In these games, a player can only [insert trench description]"
It would have a "Do not show this message again" checkbox and buttons for "Sounds fun; sign me up" and "I'll try this setting later".
How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
- This would prevent new users from entering games that they don't understand, which might scare them away from the site.
- This would provide "bite size" education on the game settings for new users, many of whom never visit the Instructions page (cf. all the questions in Q&A about different settings).
- This would allow users to continue getting warnings for certain settings (e.g. if you don't like trench games, you could simply leave the "don't show" box unchecked before clearing the message.
- You may also want to add a Control Panel option to "Reset all game settings warnings," so that users could opt back in to the warnings that they had dismissed.
