Manual Neutral Deployment aka "Castle Building"

Concise description:
  • A new game option in which instead of the neutrals being spread across a the empty territories with three per territory, those neutrals would be divided amongst the players to be placed on any unoccupied territory.

Specifics/Details:
  • This option would allow a player to fortify or protect their staring position or limit the movement of an opponent. For instance, on the Classic map, if you drop two territs on Oceania you may want to put a bunch of neutrals on Bangkok and then try to capture all of Oceania thus securing a bonus for a long term. This would also trap you so careful use of the "castle" or "wall" would be required.
  • One troop would have to remain on each neutral territory so you would only gain two from each one to be distributed to the players.
  • Territs that are given large stack to protect the integrity of the game would not be affected, or maybe they could be. This should definitely be discussed futher.
  • Killer neutrals would kill the neutrals place on them since they revert to whatever value at the begining of each turnanyway.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Benefit woudl be just another starting scenario option and may possibly limit the affect that going first in a game has on some boards.

Currently Killer Neutrals only reset their value when held by a player.

Ok so the large stacks of killer neutrals would be exempt from this option. Any other comments? Good, bad or otherwise?

Well the first thing that comes to mind is the numbers will almost never work out. Since neutrals are only given out to even the starting positions so that everyone has the same number of territories then the number of neutrals will rarely be able to be divided up evenly among the players. Ex. a 45 territory board, played with 8 players will give each player 5 starting territories with 5 left over. If you take the 2 extra neutrals per extra territory that gives you 10 extra armies to be divided by 8 players. If everyone gets one neutral to place, where would the other two armies go?

It is an interesting idea however. I think another idea would be to lower the number of neutrals to two instead of three on smaller boards with a small number of players. Nobody can really afford to waste armies attacking neutrals to gain a bonus because all attacks must be towards the enemy. I always thought that the placement of neutrals in "heads up" games usually go a long way in deciding the game before they start.

I really don't think your idea is doable IMHO as it would put to much emphasis on the neutrals, but thats just me.

The one suggestion I keep posting, that for some reason never seems to gain any traction is the "Always Let CHECK-M8 Win" option. For some odd reason I can never find other players interested in playing with those settings O:)
