For anybody afraid to try certain maps, for the 1st time.

Is there anybody out there, like me, that are afraid to try certain maps. For fear of having seven brightly coloured shades of shit kicked out of them by a player with a lot of experience of said map.

I have, on many occasions, used the game finder and found 5-20 instances of one of the more complicated maps, all being headed by the same person. On further investigation, found that it is the only map that they play. I know that to play them, I would be at a huge disadvantage.

Below, is a list of maps that I have yet to try. If anybody else has also never played one or more of them and would like to try them on a level playing field, send me a PM naming the map. Then we could get together 1v1 or if more players apply, then any number.

I favour Standard/Terminator– Sequential– No Spoils– Unlimited. Probably best if map is sunny, so that we can discuss any notions during the game.

I am currently around 1400 points, so I think the fairest match would be with a player/players between 1200-1600 points (although that does not rule out higher ranks).

Maps include: Age Of Merchants, Age Of Realms 1-3, Arms Race!, Bamboo Jack, Battle for Iraq, Circus Maximus, The Citadel, D-Day: Omaha Beach!, Halloween Hollows, King Of The Mountains, Poker Club, Siege!, Supermax: Prison Riot!, Waterloo, Oasis

These are not all of the maps that I’ve yet to play. So if you have one you’d like to try, check my games played page and if I’ve never played it, I may be happy to give it a go.

It is possible that I may have recently played some of the above, as somebody else may have replied already. However, my experience will still be very limited, so don’t be put off.

A better way would be to play a doubles game on the map with someone that knows the map. THen they can walk you through the strategy.

if you play against players that know what their doing. you can learn strategies that are priceless. even watching a speed game on difficult maps once in awhile would be beneficial. although, probably the best way to learn the most optimal strategy on difficult maps would be to play doubles+sequential+sunny. oh yeah. download bob! the map inspect feature helps out a lot on unfamiliar maps.

I've played Supermax - somehow got onto an 8-player, assassin game for my very first game as a n00b, when I shouldn't have been able to - and found it quite interesting to play. However, as a logn-time player of RPGs and board games (Supremacy, Eurorails, Dungeon, etc.) I took time when it wasn't my turn to study the board, figure out the bonus' list, and see how the other players were playing.

My best advice when looking for a game would be to just click on the map in any of the games to see the map, and if you think it too complex, then just give it a pass for now. There's plenty of time to get your feet wet with plenty of standard-type game maps out there.

Currently I'm 2 games away from my first rating, so we'll see what happenes then.
