Team Sequential Play Order

Postby DoomOmen on Tue Feb 23, 2010 5:25 am

Concise description:
The majority of the team games I have played have been freestyle, but I hate freestyle. The only reason I play it is because it allows my teammate and I to take our turn at the same time, which opens up a lot of deployment and reinforcement options.

I propose a new play order option be implemented called the Team Sequential play order, for lack of a better name thus far.

Specifics:
With the Team Sequential play order, turns are basically sequential except all members of one team have a playable turn at the same time, while the other team/teams do not.

Example:
Team 1 - Players A and B
Team 2 - Players C and D
Team 3 - Players E and F
Game begins, players A and B both have playable turns while players C, D, E and F do not. Team 1 completes their turn, players C and D now both have playable turns while players A, B, E and F do not. Team 2 completes their turn, players E and F now both have playable turns while players A, B, C and D do not. Team 3 completes their turn and the cycle starts over.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
I find that taking a turn at the same time as your teammate truly enhances the depth of strategy to team games by allowing more flexibility and options when it comes to deploying troops and reinforcing troops.

I actually sit in Ventrilo with my teammates and we work together on each turn. By playing freestyle, we get to implement all of our plans at once instead of having our co-operative plans interrupted by the normal sequential turn option. Unfortunately, with the freestyle turn option, everyone in the game can be taking turns at one time, and this makes things too chaotic to read correctly -- having to constantly refresh to see if the move you're about to make is still valid. With the Team Sequential play order, though, your full team can take their collective turns peaceably and really focus on strategy.

I suggested in effect the reverse.

Example teams 1 and 2 have their first player have their turn freestyle esque.
Then the second player have their turn freestyle esque.

I like your idea too but in some maps quads could eliminate two players and gain an advantage immediately.

I thought about how big of an advantage it would be for the team who gets the first turn and have one possible solution: the first turn is done as a normal freestyle, so that whoever is there, when the game commences, can take their turn. This will lessen the amount of overall damage the first team can deal out.

There is also something people have to realize: on the freestyle games, the last team to enter the game usually gets to take their first turn alone anyway as all teams who are waiting for the game to begin are not likely sitting at their computer staring at their games list waiting for a team to join. That could take hours.

In other words, the last team to join a freestyle game always gets first turn, whether they get to take it alone or not depends, but they always get to go first. Team sequential at least would randomize who gets to take the first turn. That is unless people like the suggestion of the first turn being freestyle and the remainder of the turns being sequential by team.
