Multis: What to do

Postby ConfessionsOfAMu on Mon Mar 01, 2010 1:03 am

Let's face it: it's easy to have multiple accounts on this site. I've been running a dozen myself for over a year, and I've never been caught (suspected and cleared once :D ). And not only is it easy, it's more fun. It's more fun than premium even (which I tried once, waaay too expensive for what it gets you). Still, I feel bad for those who are too honest or too dumb to run multiple accounts successfully. So here are four ways to put everyone on the same footing, from worst to best:

Gonzo: Permit multiple accounts and secret diplomacy (which is almost as good as having two accounts in one game). The game then devolves into a meta-game of secret deals, backstabbing, and suspicion. But at least it's a meta-game that everyone can partake in equally.

Totalitarian: Remove fog of war (the multi's best friend), forbid any teaming up, open or not, and add the capability for game replays. Then even a person with two accounts in one game won't be able to gain an advantage from them, since they can't have their accounts work together. But, since teaming up is necessary in some circumstances, and many see teaming up where there is none, this will lead to huge headaches for everyone.

Restrictive: Only count 1v1 (better: 1v1 triples or quads) for points. You can't abuse multiple accounts if there are only two people in the game. Of course you can still dominate the no-points games, but, whatever.

New Rules: Create a rules variant where skill matters more than numbers. The primary reason that having two accounts in the same game is abusive is that having double the troops is a huge advantage. This is primarily because the strategy of the game is extremely thin (not non-existent, thin). The real skill involves diplomacy (both in chat and by positioning yourself so that you don't look like the biggest threat), which being a multi also helps  . Some diceless variant (although not like the simple minded versions I've seen suggested so far, which are degenerate and involve even less strategic depth) might do the trick. Obviously this is the hardest option to implement, but probably the best for the health of the game, on many levels.

Or you could prove me wrong by busting all my accounts. as if.

Honestly, the site can't do s*** about it unless they take away another aspect of the game.

This is pretty much permitting all Hell to break loose. Nuh uh.

Replays would make some people spend way too much time searching for multis, who probably aren't even a remote threat to the success of this site. Fog of war and teaming up are big parts of the game and allowing people to come back and win after getting unlucky or something, so this isn't a great idea.

Restrictive: Only count 1v1 (better: 1v1 triples or quads) for points. You can't abuse multiple accounts if there are only two people in the game. Of course you can still dominate the no-points games, but, whatever.

Yes you can. You can just have one multi rip apart another multi in just a bunch of games. "1v1 triples": oxymoron much?

New Rules: Create a rules variant where skill matters more than numbers. The primary reason that having two accounts in the same game is abusive is that having double the troops is a huge advantage. That's just completely changing the aspects of gameplay. Nuh uh.

Let's face it. You can keep jerkin' it to a billion multis on this website. If that's what gets you up, then so be it. You're not really "hurting" the site so you can continue to pop a few out everyday to: "teehee, teh mult1s rulez!"

Oh, then why are multiple accounts against the rules of the game? Why are their multi-hunters?

So there isn't a gross abuse of the game. If you make 20 or so multis, it's not really going to do much, until you get one to a high enough rank that people will actually care.

What he means is, you are occassionally taking away the fun of the site, but not the underlying fun of the game, or site.

Multis are helpful, because they remind us of what depths some will sink to, and renew our self-respect, knowing you may have more accounts, but will always have less class and worth.

And when you grow up, after bragging about your investment scam to bubba as he uses you as a pillow, just one more time...we'll be clicking away and still having fun here.

I agree. Its easy to cheat, its easy to steal, its easy to lie, and get away with all of those things. What is not easy, is regaining character after ditching it by the side of the road though...so...have your fun, cheat in a strategic game, we know you're out there and always will be....but not only is it a good laugh for us, but we have fun chasing you down and finding you out too. Its all part of the game.

But, if you think youre smart because you can set up two ips and get away with it...come on. Obviously its possible, and anyone can do it.... but the game is a silly waste of time as it is.. putting time into cheating it is just too silly for most of us.

:D

They do. Many hunt down multis, and many reports are made, and many are busted. It is of course impossible to stop the creation of a multi, so we have our fun around them, and deal with them as they cross our paths.

Heres a link you may have missed. its around 150 pages of time spent battling cheaters.

Im sure you have a better suggestion, like maybe a DNA test, or a blood test....though, i think one poker site does require a photo ID to play...but thats a scary thing, and Lack wouldnt even want that kind of information around realistically.

Anyways, heres the link. I do wonder why you stick around here. You only ever seem to complain about the site. Its very odd. Maybe you should try out the better ones.

Oh yeah....there are none. The other sites are all utterly a waste of time. Unprofessional, slow, and a poor community to say the least.

Heres the link though, in case you missed it
