fog of war game log

I think the way the game log is done in fog of war is kinda dumb. Why does it need to be ? attacked ? when the ? countries are within your viewing area. Its frustrating because I use the game log for a alot of stradegy. Also its dumb because a person could get an advantage if they happen to watch you while you are taking your turn because they will get to see what the game log doesn't reveal. Not saying its a huge deal, but its just a little thing that could be easily fixed and i think it would improve/balance the game.

Thanks

Uhm, only player that is taking his turn can see the armies on the map. Everybody else sees question marks. People can watch you play as long as they like, they will not see anything except map full of question marks.
And game log is of no help to opponents, because it also only shows the question marks.
It is Fog of War, after all.
Map and logs are only revealed after the game is ended.

I'm not sure I understand everything that you are saying but I just thought the whole point of fog of war was that you could see what was in the "line of sight" of your countries and nothing else. So i think instead of "?" in the gamelog it should say what country it is, IF it is within your line of sight.

I guess the part that you quoted was just an agrument i threw in there to add some further reason as to why it should be changed other than my reason of "its how fog of war normally works". With that argument I assumed that while someone was taking there turn in FoW you could see what they were doing if they are within your line of sight...can't remember definatively if I've ever actully seen a FoW turn taking place but I am pretty sure I have.

No, You have NOT seen it. Can NOT see your opponents making moves.

And you can always take a 'PrintScreen' snapshot of your turn, save it in Paintshop and you will have a complete record of your game and past turns (army posiotions etc...)

You're missing his point. He's saying when he has a territory bordering someone else, and they attack another territory bordering him, if you're lucky enough to watch the move happen, then you got an advantage because you know what happened. For example, on classic map....

Player A has Brazil, Player B has Argentina, Player C has Peru. Player A using Brazil attacks Player C with Peru. If Player B was watching the game, he could see, just as if there was no fog, player A attacking player C, player C losing his armies, and Player A advancing (he would also see how many armies were used).

However, in the game log it would still show

Player A attacked ? from ? and conquered it from Player C.

He's saying that SINCE he was bordering it, the info should be displayed as

Player A attacked Peru from Brazil and conquered it from Player C.

It would STILL be displayed as

Player A attacked ? from ? and conquered it from Player C.

for everyone else, except the person that has Venezuela, who would be able to see it as well.

Personally I think there are more important matters to address and it would take a while to code, as people's gamelogs would all be different from one another.

Not necessarily, since people already have different logs in FoW games.

Yea, I'm not really sure how the coding works for this. Just thought if it was a quick fix it would be a good fix.

Yes, you are right.
I missed it completely.
Maybe because I never sit down and watch other people make their moves in seq., which is all that I play...
Thanks for the correction

Yes, it would be helpful. It might be easy to code, although the log would have to keep track of which territories you own at any time, which it doesn't do (but might in the future). It's been brought up before, and the answer was no. Advanced search is your friend.

If it helps, BOB has a snapshot feature, which will take pictures for you so you can compare them to the current situation. You haven to be logged in to take the picture though, it won't do it automatically.

Let loser know what countries they lost

Suggestion: let the loser of a battle know what country they lost, if they are playing with "fog of war"
  • xxxxxxx

Specifics:

  • Right now, the loser of a battle, when playing with "fog of war", if they lose a territory that isn't next to one of their own, they don't know which territory they lost.
  • Everyone should be fully informed of the status of their own territories, which should include which territories the lose, also.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • xxxxxxx (you can obviously delete this for bug reports)
  • xxxxxxx
