Solutions for perceived dice unfairness

Postby ctgottapee on Sun Aug 03, 2008 2:57 am

as has been noted, the dice are not flawed, our perceptions are

first, we expect to win larger army vs small army rolls every time; not much can be done about that though

second, we don't get to see all the good defending dice we roll when competitors attack us, so lets fix this
right now we only see three of the four possibilities:
> good attack dice
> bad attack dice
> bad defensive dice when our territory is taken over
>>> but we miss out on the good defensive dice. with all the people whining about losing when attacking 17armies vs 1army, that means the defensive person doesn't get to relish in those crazy defensive rolls.

:solution 1:
whenever you Begin your turn, your chat log will show you a private msg, just like a personal note, of any succesfull defensives rolls that occured between the last turn. now just what threshold should be shown could be determined. for starters, any AutoAttacks in which you win, the results will be shown as a msg, ie "The Chemistry Lab survived a 19 vs 7 auto-attack with 3 armies remaining"

i know it will be hard to document the 19 vs 7 win if the person keep clicking single attack button, so this will have to be a work in progress. for now any auto attack wins and say any 2 dice defensive wins should do, ie an attacker rolled 3 dice against your 2 and you won both armies. could also have a message showing your total succesfull defensive rolls, ie "Your were attack by XX armies in Round 9 and rolled victoriously XX times"

:solution 2:
at the end of the game, dice statistics will be shown
> one diagram will show a simple line chart with all the rolls per player and total

[my diagram is just a sample-be kind]

> one diagram will show you all the attack rolls
> one diagram will show you all the defensive rolls
