Time penalty for not ending turn in speed game

Concise description:
  • Give any players not ending their turn in a speed game a "time out" penalty where they cannot start their turn until some amount of time has passed.

Specifics:
  • When playing a freestyle speed game, a tactic is employed to not end a turn so that they can get their armies immediately instead of waiting for someone to take a turn. This is especially common in non-card games. By giving them a penalty it will allow the player that ended first the rightful opportunity to make the first move in the next round.

There was/is a whole debate about the double-turns rule... Personally I would support the idea to block active players at the end of the round for half the next one, in the same way as the last player to finish a round does.

Care to elaborate as to why? And the "everyone does this" one doesn't qualify tbh.

that wouldnt be so bad but what happens when all the players run out as it often happens in 1v1 FS speed

That's simple because its the only exception. If all players run out of time then all of them should be able to start the next round right away.

If at least one player finishes their turn, then everyone who runs out of time is finishing their turn last. Consequently all players who run out of time should have to wait for 1/2 of the next turn or for someone else to start the next round.

I'm actually amazed that the system is not currently set up this way. It's a complete scam to purposefully run out of time because it doesn't count you as being the last to move. You ARE the last to move in this case and should be penalized accordingly.

Taking double turns is a fair strategy in freestyle games. It is not exclusive to only some players and it is not right to penalize someone for using a strategy open to everyone. Especially in the case of card games, if you cant get end your turn for whatever reason, it isnt right that you should not only lose the card, but not be able to keep your bonus. The strategy is well known and anyone can use it. There is no need for modifying something that is equally fair to all people in the game. If you want to have the opportunity to break opponents bonuses, play sequential, thats why you have the option

You used to be able to simply end your turn in freestyle and then start a new one when someone else began. The powers that be decided this was abuse and the freestyle game was not designed to let players weakly hold a continent and get the bonus for starting at the right time.

To fix this problem, all players are forced to wait for 1/2 of the next turn unless someone else begins the round. This gives players a fair chance to break a weakly held bonus, and gives you a reason to try and end the round first.

The exact same rule should apply to players who do not finish their turn. The strategy is exactly the same as the old freestyle strategy which was deemed to be abuse, so this instance of it should be eliminated as well.

This is, plain and simple, why I no longer play freestyle. I could not afford to sit and wait through several turns playing "you end it first". A lot of people like this game play. If you don't, play Sequential.

I agree that there should be a pentalty for not ending your turn, the same as 'last player to end' would suffice.
