I was very odd to me when it happened.

Like owen, I had been heading for Captain, again, and was closing in on it fast.

I finished a game, and with satisfaction noted the diamond next to my name.

I went and made a cup of tea, sat down, wrote a couple of emails, checked back to see what was happening, clicked on my games and lo and behold, I was a Major.

Wondering if I had won a huge game without actually knowing it, I checked my recently finished games..no, nothing there, so quizically, I checked the note from lack. Saw the info and there it was.

I was ambivalent..had I earned this new rank? Was I deserved? Of course I was. Now I don't want to lose it, which, of course I will, such is the yoyo effect, all it will mean is I strive to retain it for more time, then finally break free of the relegation zone...then it's onwards to the crown.

The crown isn't worth it in my opinion unless you have 3k points. So, as far as I am concerned, I am a major still trying to get my crown. Horrible change!

and now, the flip flop begins... from another thread, the beloved rank change defender and creator of this thread posted:
Top Dog wrote:I voted old ones (rank)... before I thought sergeant and up were ones you can count on to be skilled... now I have to think they could just be corp. 1st class and are just lucky players, so now I have to think sergeant 1st class is skilled...

if you know me, changing my original train of thought is a long path to take... I'll get it down by the next time they change ranks back to the old way again

HA!!! have to love this guy!!!-0

The only difference is at what score you attain a certain rank. Captain used to be 2000+, Lieutenant 1800+, etc.

Its true that nothing has really changed. Fact is, if you were 1859 when the change occurred you're still 1859 after. The difference is that instead of Lieutenant, you're a Captain. And the only thing that bugs me is that before, certain ranks held a certain esteem that they now just utterly lose.

Before I strode to become a Major -- 2500+ -- but after the changes I was a Major, but it felt hollow. When I go into games I see Captain/Major rank, but I have to remind myself, these guys are really Captain/Majors, they just Lieutenant/Captains and while they certainly aren't bad players, they certainly aren't what I remember as Captains/Majors.

So while the change means nothing, certainly the hard part is parting with the old mentality of ranks. They're the first thing you see about a player -- the score only available on their profile -- thus first impressions are made on rank alone. Now I have to force myself to alter my appraisal of players, despite seeing ranks that I'm used to seeing in a certain level of respectability. So the difficulty is now accepting that Major isn't all that special anymore, in fact just about everything has been degraded, and for some odd reason, that is tough to swallow. Stupid? Yes. But despite that I can't alter how I feel at the moment and perhaps, until I forget the old system ever existed, I never will.

I left this game as a colonel 1 year ago. I came back and I was a major.
I didn't mind - all ranks are relative to points, and now I'm back up to my old position of colonel.
I didn't play this site for 12 months and still I'm in the top 250...
Once my premium gets sorted and I get my old team mates back and I run some 3xdoubles games... I'll be in the top fifty again.
You can't keep a good player down for long. :)
