Some of your guys are freakin stupid. I never made this thread with the intent of complaining about losing games. It was simply an impartial remark that Oceana tends to give more of an advantage than South Africa.

Well in your defense, when I got into an argument with MaDeFe about the best continent to take, I researched a bunch of flat rate games on that map and did find that the player who first took Oceania won more games than any other starting continent by a rather long shot.

Of course, that doesn't mean that the bonus is too high. In fact, lowering it to one could actually increase it's efficacy at least in games with stronger players. One of the best things about Oceania is that you're sort of stuck off to the side and can typically put a pretty big block. However, what tends to get lost, at least to less skilled players is the fact that the fact that you're only guarding a 2 army bonus means people are less likely to hit you as well. This would only be made less likely if you only get 1.

So, I would postulate that being sort of forgotten about and allowed to build unmolested has as much to do with Oceania being such a great place to start as any unfairly high bonus.

Somebody intimated as much when they said if you wanted to make it tough, raise the bonus, then people would be fighting over it all game long.

Very true. Escalating cards are another matter. I think they also make this game all about luck.


you are a true noob, if it really relied on luck as much as you said it did you might win a game or two, and for gods sakes dont say you would have been a captain under the old scoring system, if you were good enough to do that you would be able to beat the lower ranked players and slowly work your way up, not plummet back down to serving food.

Guys, wrestler has his right to give a suggestion.

Just like we have the right to immediately shoot it down because it's a poor idea. Getting Australia is not the end of the game, I think you are believing that because in a 1v1 if 2 players battle for Aussie, and Aussie only, the person who comes out victorious and holds it most likely comes out to win. If you went for SA while one went for Aussie, theoretically it would be an even game.

Anyways, I don't think any of the bonuses should be altered, I don't even think the map should be changed. Like if anyone ever wants to change the wording on it to something impossible to see, I don't think they should do it.
