Ok... so, I was playing with sidwalk chalk with my kid and I had a great idea! sometime I want to draw a big map with sidwalk chalk and play big risk! I was thinking of painting blocks of wood for the armies.

You need to make giant dice. Find a foam supplier and get five cubes, that are about 1 foot per side, then paint 3 of them red, and put dice dots on all 5. Oh, and don't forget cards.

Can I play?

Don't try that in MN, a tornado will probably blow your armies away. Seriously though I think it should be life size pieces played by your friends. Like the chess game in THe History of the World Pt. 1. Then the Rape of Nanking could get very interesting.

Sorry Twill, that is a historical reference not a racial slur. Please keep you unofficial official warning to yourself this time.

i like the 3-d chalk. also, we got hit by a bunch of storms and rain, so you better plan your game for a nice stretch of weather. rain washes away chalk really fast. and take pictures.

If you want it to play more like CC than real Risk, make sure to put 2 - 3 extra sixes on the defender dice!

You could let your kid draw a map with sidewalk chalk, let him name the countries, then get some poster board and draw some large cards that match the countries.
You could get the dice from a auto-supply store that carries those stupid looking dice some people hang on their rear-view mirror.
You could get armies from those little plastic armies that come in a bag.

Since you'll be doing it with sidewalk chalk, permanence isn't an issue, but it should be a lot of fun naming the countries, drawing the board, etc. with your kid.
Great idea!

Or you could TEACH your kid some geography with the correct names! Oh yeah, Coop, be sure to teach him how to drink too much while playing so you pass out in the middle of a turn, run out of time, not get a card and singlehandedly cost your quad team the game....but I am not bitter or anything.

PS Next time I am in Austin, Owen and I are so doing this. On a related note, Bridget will be moving in with Kim to form a "I am stuck with a conquer club loser" support group.

That sounds like fun vace! My kids and I turned the sidewalks and driveway into a great big mothers day card for my wife this year, a risk map is clearly the next logical step. Well done man.

well, that... or getting a job so you can possibly afford a mother's day card and/or a board game of risk... maybe even two jobs, so both are within reach... i, for one, hate doodle earth. so if jude drew a map of the globe on the back patio in chalk, he just might end up in the custody of Child Protective Services...-0

So what are you going to use for armies exactly?

I suggest cans of beer (full ones of course)
Heineken for greens
Red Stripe for Reds
Tennents Super for blue
I can't think of a predominantly pink, cyan or yellow coloured beer, so you may have to buy some packets of sweets. I think starburst are packaged in yellow.

Then you have to drink / eat what you take off the board. I guarantee that the winner will end up removing the chalk outline of the map with a techincolour chunder.
