Indeed gimil. Let Elijah play....after all, he chose the pink typeface and assumed the persona of a cheerleader....is there something we should be told perhaps Elijah..you can tell us you know...you are among friends. I'm sure Mrs Smith, whoever she may be, or whatever she did to you to warrant using her memory in this way, will not mind either.

Back on topic, thank you for the update Andy, appreciated.

by the way, it is SEXIEST, not sexyist... if this is the type of person that inhabits the Foundry, no wonder the texas map ended up with so many of the major cities "kind of" close to where they should be geographically... anyway, i offered constructive criticism, and what i suggested, seems to be the basis for what is going to happen to this interesting newsletter (oh wait,i STOLE IT from courtney!! i forgot!!). not saying we are why the change is happening, but we did put in constructive criticism to try and help this newsletter flourish properly. you sir, just came in and tried to be funny and witty and make us all bow to your genius... next time use a dictionary or spell check... good luck!!-0

I corrected my spelling mishap, just for you Owen!
As for the Texas cities being misplaced... it's Texas! - I mean who really cares? If it was important to you, perhaps you should've checked it out while it was in the Foundry? I mean, any true Texan could surely pull himself out of his self-proclaimed position of GD Posting and Spelling Police long enough to drop into the Foundry when his proud state was being made into a map?
Yes...yes... many do bow to my tremendous wit and humor, but I've gotten used to it!

You did, in fact, provide some constructive advice about the Newsletter, but it was maybe overshadowed by your usual stance, that ALL map-related posts must be redirected to the Map Foundry.

I think we all tend to just scroll past those posts we've no interest in, so rather than complaining about what posts you personally deem unsuitable for GD, why not merely ignore them. -Sooner or later they all drift to the abyss.

P.S. - I've got a red medal and you don't! [-X

i live in texas, i'm not a texan... family from the bronx, grew up an army brat, mostly in germany, alabama and new mexico... aside from that, i did hit the texas map thread, and was politely asked to leave via PM, so i did. i've never been asked to leave a thread in the GD, Q&A, or chatter box... go figure... anyway, i plan on following the newsletter, it should make the foundry less daunting. i'm all for anything that makes that place a little easier to follow.-0

Over the past few posts, I've noticed two important points that I'd like to bring up.

1st: We make the assumption that people are aware of every map in development, at least in theme
Evidence:

Truth is, unless someone visits the foundry and looks through each of the three major forums (Ideas, the foundry itself, Final Forge), then browses through at least the first post of each map, this is not do-able. Consider that long process. The foundry is a daunting place purely due to how much is going on at once. Vanishingly few people stay in the foundry regularly, and barely more than that pop in and find a map that strikes their fancy. Topic surfing through three dozen active maps (not to mention the number of ideas being created daily) is not convenient, and thus assuming that people are aware of maps that interest them is a fallacy.

2nd: We make the assumption that only people currently aware of the foundry and/or any related materials will ever be interested
Evidence:
Owenshooter wrote:i already stated that this should be a sticky in the Map Foundry, where people can come visit. i would visit for sure. it is hard to find new info in the dense threads that exist there... make this a sticky in the foundry, and make it a sticky here for a few days to let people see what it is. i truly think it is a GREAT idea, but i don't think it belongs here...-0

Consider the earlier problem of surfing through every topic. When a person first enters the foundry, they see map topics, and a few map resources that are just as unfamiliar as the map topics themselves. By nature of the way maps are handled, the newsletter would reside in the Foundry Discussion forum, (as it is right now) one step further into the confusion from the new guy's perspective. And that new guy will more than likely be completely oblivious of any resource that puts things in ordinary English instead of foundryspeak.

I consider the newsletter to address both these points as it is currently being presented: as a non-stickied topic in GD (though my personal views would prefer a sticky, we'll stick to the book) that puts everything in development in a simple, easy-to-read format. Instead of reading pages on pages of text, we've condensed the entire foundry down into a couple pages so that people can be aware of those maps that DO interest them (they just didn't know of their existence), and that more people can get involved with the foundry through a map that they like. If we pigeon-holed the newsletter back into the foundry, it would not be accomplishing its purpose, as pretty much only foundry people would read it.

disagree, completely... give it a sticky here in the GD for a bit, then move it where it belongs, in the foundry. put up a reminder when a new one comes out if you want, but it doesn't belong in the GD. again, why not have a GD update in the foundry? i am sure fruitcake would love to put up his weekly GD recap in there, so you can all get a taste of what is going on. i think you make people aware of it, let them know where it is, and then make it a sticky where it belongs, in the foundry, not in gd... already been addressed, and they are figuring out the best way to make it visible, without putting it in the GD...-0
