Is the New System of ratings Better or Worse than the old feedback system?

I really need to see the system in action more but first impression is that I love the system. There was the mistaken impression on the old system that a feedback was for a "game" and not a "player." This clearly gives the impression that you are rating the player not the player's action in one specific game. It would be nice to have a text comment, but who really read those commetns carefully anyway and is it really worth the hassle by the mods to constantly monitor for bad content?

Anyway, I don't think the old system was that great. I think now that it's less personal you're more likely to get more ratings and thus it'd become more accurate. Previously I had over 900 games played and only about 63-8 feedbacks. I joined a game the other day and due to me not realizing it had started I didn't start my first turn until almost 4 minutes into it and already someone was like "oh look at her feedback, she's a deadbeater and misses turns on purpose".... I was being judged on a couple bad feedback even though I hadn't even missed a turn and even though I replied to my negs. And at least a couple of my feedback could have been deleted for being against the rules or whatever I just never bothered to open a ticket over it.

And if you really want to take feedback into consideration...it's still there...

hah! no wonder you like it... we can;t see you're a Deadbeater anymore!! .... kidding, kidding, hello Love!

I agree, there was nothing perfect about the old system! but from my point of view there are a few things missing from the new one.

Actually I believe that what you say is very likely. But let's also consider, that for casual players that don't play hundreds of games rapidly, it will take a long time to average out the irregularities. I'm just ball parking that you'd need at least 1000 ratings to feel like the average was a fairly accurate representation of a player. That's years from now for most players.

because it was too much work for the mods. Why not keep BOTH rating systems, and leave negs as negs?

or at least don't allow written comments to be posted until the game is archived (preventing retaliation)

yes - only allowing comments before archive so neither side can retaliate would have been good. Maybe to avoid the worst excesses we could have had a drop down selection of negative comments like total deadbeat, bad language, poor play, teaming...this might have helped get around the feedback moderation issues, though we would still have missed out on some of the livelier comments.

sorry if it was too early for the poll - you can always vote after a week or three.

Much much worse. The Admins clearly have no idea what value a good feedback system added to the game. They wanted it gone and rushed out an il-designed and poorly executed non-solution.

If you would like to see comments back to run alongside the existing system, come and try to refine an idea in the below thread:

hey, the feedback comments that you currently have are going to be added to your wall in the near future. already talked to twill about it, because i was copying and pasting all my comments onto peoples walls (some of them were just golden and needed to be preserved). he explained they are going to auto pop onto your wall one day...-0

nice.. yeah it would a shame to see some of those golden oldies disappear!

The link above is trying to work on a way to integrate an ongoing comment system, so we can still make new ones ...but keeping it completely out of the Mods hair.

oh, you mean like a WALL of comments? a Wall of comments the user can choose to keep or remove, as if moderating their own written comments or "feedback" from other users? that is a cool idea... oh, look at that!! right there on the left hand side of my window is a little thing that reads "Wall"... hmmm, wonder what that could be for?!!-0

p.s.-had to do it, J-man... sorry.

I noticed one minor annoyance, there is no really good category of knowledge of the game. I was in a four player terminator game. One player tried to take out someone but only took 2/3 of him out. The other player then managed to eliminate the weakend opponent, take out the poor player and turn his sights to me. I beat him in the end but that wasn't the issue. When it came time to give a ranking, well making bad moves doesn't fit in any of the categories, so he got an average score because he deserved it in the other categories.

The new system has a lot of restrictions but I think, because it no longer requires the mods to really do anything, we're stuck with it.
I think it sucks when you get rated all 1's by someone because they don't like you or had an in-game altercation.
-Such is the case with my partner in a game with Juls and Uncle Death.
We were rated 1's for teamwork and attendance, although we never missed a turn and our teamwork won us the game. (Pussies)
Anyway, I'm not giving the ratings much consideration, because once someone rates you, even when it's inaccurate or unjustified, you're stuck with it unless you contact them and ask them to remove or change it. And I'd rather have all 1's for my ratings than have to contact some prick who's just a sorry-ass loser. :D

No, it doesnt. Giving 0 stars (or not being able to score teamwork) will cause that attribute to not even be counted for the overall score.

For example, if I give you a 4 for Attendance/Attitude/Fair Play your average score is (4+4+4)/3 = 4. The teamwork score, being blank, does not count into the equation.

Opponents can rate your teamwork is what he/she meant.
If it's true, it's lame and needs to be fixed.

Knowledge of the game is reflected in score. I play a cook, I don't expect him to be all that good. I also risk a lot more than he does.

Ironic that you choose this example to promote your "knowledge of the game." I jumped on a hanger and then took out somebody who is just as good as you, at least according to the scorings. Since I took more points out of the game than you did, even though I wagered 28 to your 18, who really won? Welcome to Terminator.

Under the old system, you wouldn't have been able to hide behind a delayed posting. If you thought I was dumb, you would've had to stand behind it. It took me a lot more work to figure out you were a fucktard this way.

Dumbass.

Not a single player here will hold a 5.0 rating forever. Eventually, everyone will get something less, even if they only give 5's. After a little while, all the ratings from people who use 5's as the starting point, and the people who use 3, and the people who give 1's whenever they lose, will all average out, and you will be able to tell by how someone compares to this average quite easily. It may not be the "recommended" average mark, but it will be just as useful. You will also be able to tell how valid a really high or low ranking from any particular person is, by checking the other ratings they've left. Right now, things are a bit skewed because the ratings have only been in place for a few days. Would everyone please just settle down, and give the rating system some time to work itself out before they freak out about it.

If we took the results of zimmah's survey of 'intended' average scores to be roughly equal to the average, we should see something like this:

rating votes r x v
1 4 4
2 1 2
3 50 150
4 26 104
5 37 185
sum 118 445
average 3.8

Apologies for the formatting, but the result is 3.8. We'll see if the average really comes out close to this sample of intended votes over time...

But those who rate players with an average of 3 should expect a flurry of PMs asking "wtf? why have you marked me down, I thunk we hud a good game dude...", or similar, from players who view a 5 in the same way as the old positive rating.

I find the new rating system rather aporling. Premium members, of which there are a lot, are paying players. As a paying member myself, I don't expect to have to take what I am given. Considering the unanimous opposition to the rating system, I feel the people in charge make it a neccessity to improve on their mistakes.

the mods have got better things to do and in all honesty the old feedback system was very intensive work and a drain on resources. Im hoping that now lack has unlocked the mods from their duties, that something new will be added to the site to improve it !

However, all is not lost!! lets be proactive and try and change the system for the better. Jiminski, has proposed a moderating system that he seen used by urban dictionary , were the community actually moderate ratings and stuff. Its a great and gets people interested in the site :D

I made a poll AND combined all the suggestions I found to date. It is located in Suggestions and Bugs.

One thing to realize, SOME change was necessary. The old system took too much time to moderate. But, I have combined as many suggestions as I got into one thread. You can vote, including for a return to the old system, but without moderation.

This does not mean the change won't stay, but at least we can give our voices...
