Suggestion

Postby jbrettlip on Fri Jun 20, 2008 1:14 pm

Make it easier to keep topics on topic:

Basically do not allow people to type anything in a post other than the original poster:

All posts should have a poll question that reads: Do you agree? 1)Yes 2)No 3 ) Maybe. This would eliminate all the banter and intelligent thought people put into forum discussions.
*

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
Mods won't have to decide if people are on topic, off topic, smarter than them or just flaming. This MIGHT decrease the number of PM's sent out warning people. Also topics will simply be one point of view that you can either vote with or against.
However, I am sure Owenshooter will still get banned if he clicks the Maybe option.

Actually my real suggestion is, if people aren't flaming or being abusive, let them talk. Now poor Owenshooter is CC Forum Jail, and I have to break in to break him out ala Prison Break. Here's another suggestion, POLICE THE MODS. Turning a blind eye to corruption is what got Rodney King's butt kicked. If someone is being truly wicked with their mod powers, perhaps a timeout for him or HER is suitable. SEE YOU SOON OWEN!!!!

1) This is not 'On topic'
2) GD is now full of suggestions threads, nothing is being done about it, what's one more?

It IS on topic since he is listing suggestions on how/what to post. My SUGGESTION is to learn WHERE to post. Don't make a scene about how others post when you yourself cannot follow the rules either.

As far as we know, it did not happen because of the CM thread.

The thread in the suggestion forum was locked so we may as well answer here. BTW, jbrett shouldn't be punished by having his thread locked. It was my fault that I couldn't stay on topic and give his thread the respect it deserved. My most sincere apologies my friend, it's just that I couldn't help myself.

It is like the world has gone mad. A thread in the suggestions forum is locked because someone made a suggestion!!!

back on topic...I still agree.

i don't agree with owen's ban. i just have fun reading people's posts. I don't do FW. I like "witty banter", and I don't think threads should be locked and people banned for it.

hmmm... :? the thread in suggestions, was a suggestion. why was it locked? - detlef, quit being funny. it annoys people. ;)

brett-good suggestion. i hope it wouldn't come to that!

Exactly. There's nothing funny in flame wars. Even if there was, how are we meant to direct thread readers over there to read our "witty banter"? Just let threads play out as they do. Nobody's gone over to callouts to yell at people for writing a load of Arrested Development quotes, and they aren't even funny.

Brett,

I understand your problem with the fact that owen was finally put on vacation for doing exactly what he was asked, and warned, not to do many many times.

It is truly unfair that someone should be punished for something they were very clearly told not to do. truly. I feel your pain...so unjust isn't it!

Taking threads off topic is a selfish and uncouth thing to do. It really isn't all about you, as much as you would like it to be. Not everyone can be here to take a thread off topic at the speed you and the rest of the BpB can.

The posting basics from the forum guidelines really are quite clear

Posting basics:
The Guidelines wrote:The “l337” poster knows to ask himself/herself 3 basic questions before pressing the all powerful “submit” button:

One: Is my post really necessary or is it just mental diarrhea?
Two: Am I trolling or feeding a troll?
Three: Really?

This last question should be asked at least twice but is often ignored because everyone likes to think that they are saying something ground breaking when in fact Owen you so funny and I agree are in fact not new and the only thing they will break is your reputation.

slightly edited for the current situation

Owen failed, often failed both number 1 and number 3 of the posting basics. As are you currently.

If you would like to discuss how the forum is run, drop me a PM and I'd be happy to talk it over with you.

In the mean time, because this is a poorly veiled trollbait thread, it's getting locked down. We know how you feel and there are much more appropriate places to discuss this.

Have a censored day.
