Exactly.

He started his round and then eliminated 4 players (the 5th one ends the game so is irrelevant atm). And as you can hold 5 cards at the end of a round he could theoretically start with 5 cards and then get 20 more for a total of 25 cards, 6 sets is 18 so there's a few to spare even.

Eliminating chains as this one is the basic strategy in a esc game. Just thank him for the lesson and go do it to someone else yourself.
