just curious what this community thinks about the recent censoring of threads and sudden increase in the locking of threads.

Not much of an open forum if this occurs.

Well the thread TCO had started about canadian labor law was shut down when it should have just been moved to off-topics. Granted some of the stuff was spam or just people acting out, that thread was legit and TCO's gonna be pissed when she sees that (so I took the time to copy the whole thing to OT).

The way i see it is Lack owns it, he can dictate what he wants.

yes he does own it. however if he wants to create a community here (which he does), then he has to foster and develop that envrionment. When posting and modding rules are set up, they should be followed by posters, mods and admins.

And in trying to create a "community" is where the problem is going to be. A true community is where its leaders are elected. If they are appointed and its goal is a "community" then it becomes a form of dictatorship, even if they listen to the masses.

The reason I havent renewed my membership is due to illness which is affecting my concentration, it will be renewed when i feel better

By paying for membership does not give you any ownership or rights to the site, unless Lack says so in any contract.. Lack could close it down tomorrow and take everyones money if he chooses.

You did not pay for forums - you paid for CC. Afaik, in the terms you put the little checkbox in, nothing was specified about forums.

no, paying a membership does not give one a partial interest in this company, but it does give the paying customer 12 months of services due. which lack is obligated to provide, now lets not go into him closing the site, my argument is based upon a legitamate buisness wanting to provide a service to its customers.

and as someone who visits the forum, i dont understand why you chose to say i was whining in response to my question.

I'm guessing that you perused all of the locked threads and found their content to be a meaningful continuation of the topics at hand and as such important developments in furthering the discussion that has been percolating here in recent days. But you'll have to point out examples of the censorship that has occurred, because it certainly seems that there has been a lot of tolerance shown towards the amount of ass spammed across these forums lately. Maybe I missed something?
