One of the most important and difficult things you have to do as a Community Manager is find good mods.

It’s not an easy task to be sure. Here’s my feelings on mods: It is always better to recruit a good mod when you don’t need one, than a bad mod when you do.

Things that make a good mod:

* Level headed and can diffuse an argument
* Doesn’t get sucked in by baiting
* Follows the guidelines
* Helpful
* Has a distinct personality (comical, lovable, harball etc.)
* Respected by their peers

Things to be wary of:

* Ego - I can have more than enough for a whole team
* Negative/bad ratings/karma if available
* Guideline violations or abusive language
* People who are *more* interested in being funny or liked than being positive contributors

Also, keep in mind that when people ask to be mods, it is often (although not exclusively) because they are looking for the title more so than they are looking to better the community they participate in. Mods who go on power trips bring more problems to the team than benefits. If you think someone would abuse their powers, get a big ego or use their mod powers for their own benefit, they are not mod material

Now, who on this site of ours has a history of stalking and doesn't give two shits if I reveal his name to you or not?

I leave you all to connect the dots. If you've ever poked your nose into FW (which surely everyone has at some point), you'd have to be an idiot not to guess.

This has been a lesson in deductive reason by yours truly.
