Major mistake - advice please

Postby e_i_pi on Mon Aug 04, 2008 8:02 pm

Hi all,

I've been babysitting for another player. He never said how long he'd be gone. I've been babysitting for about 3 weeks. Anyhow, things got real busy for me about a week and a half ago - 6 shifts, 2 contract jobs, had to do some family stuff for my gran. I had so much on my mind that I totally forgot I was babysitting :( :( I've deadbeated in both games he was in. One game was a write-off anyhow. But the other game was 4xdoubles, and we were the losing team. I knocked out 1 opponent from each team, and someone knocked out another, bringing ity to us (2) v 1 v 1. And I've deadbeated. Anyone got advice on what I should do? I've already apologised in gamechat, but this is really poor form, especially from a babysitter. :(

I think the question is more on the ethics of taking a turn with the extra territories and cards. Not sure what to tell you.

If you ask me??

Go play chess my friend, there is no element of chance in chess.

You either win or lose.

What was your point again?

You lost!!!

If someone asks you to cover their acct, doesn't say how long they will be gone and stays away for three weeks [-X [-X
Forget about it, that is beyond a simple favor of covering. They are stuck with whatever they get

i am assuming you finished a bunch of games for him first, considering you were already sitting for 3 weeks... i am certain that its not a big deal that you deadbeated two. it was an honest mistake, and i think the person "damaged" will forgive you. you lost him what... 60 points (not gaining 40, losing 20, obviously going with average values here) by not finishing that game? i dont think it will matter so much. it's just points in a game.

You see I made the mistake of choosing the respectable looking lady. :P I'm willing to give the other guy a chance. If only dugcarr were still around.

Stuff happens. You apologized in chat, of course send a pm to the other player ... and life goes on. I would expect a bad rating, perhaps to be put on a foe list or two, but in the end, it is a game. And, as was already said, three weeks is an awfully long time for an account sitter, particularly if arrangements were not made in advance. That said, people DO go on vacation.

Also, think twice about volunteering to account sit again. (then again, maybe once burned is twice learned ... maybe you would be a good candidate if you will never let this happen again! ;) )

The phrase "beggars can't be choosers" comes to mind. It's just 2 games. Sucks more for the other teammates than the person you were sitting for. Possibly you shoot them a PM, and be done with it.

Best,

Yeah my apology hasn't seemed to upset people too much. One game it didn't even raise an eyebrow, the other, nothing, apart from Orange declaring Shennanigans. Still haven't heard from the account holder though.

I would worry about it... Just shoot a pm to all parties involved, especially the person you account sat for, and apologize.
