Ok, this has been bugging me for a while, and I'm sure the answer is obvious:

What is the difference between the gray and red symbol on the left side of a topic's name?

red symbol means there is a new post (or several) , grey means: nothing new

also, if there is an "*" in the main star, then you have already written in that thread
