Cleaning up private usergroup forums

Postby Kotaro on Fri Sep 05, 2008 1:21 am

How do I get this done?

I, long ago, suggested the idea of making usergroup leaders mods of their own little space, so they could clean up at will, but since that hasn't happened yet, I was wonderinf if you mods had an alternative solution for me.

Send them frequent PM's asking them to delete the threads that you want deleted. You'll either get your mod powers, get your threads deleted, or get banned.

I dont think mod powers would ever be given because then they would be able to see the mod logs and the MCP, amongst other reasons.

I believe in the past this was being discussed and lack was looking at how to remove the access to private information from the usergroup mods, but I am not sure.

No, they'd only need to have simple moderator status, and with that you can't do much more than edit and delete posts, and those other basic tasks. PHPBB 3 has some really intense permissions customization...

all you need to do is have the authors change the titles of the posts to "DELETE" and then once all of the ones that you want deleted have been tagged, you can alert a mod to hop in and delete them for you. im not sure which mod would be in charge of that now tho.

Authors sometimes leave usergroups, or even the site all together, so that's not always possible.

Welll I must admit sometimes I am a mod. I know for a fact that they do not delete posts. Messes with the post count among other things. A Global mod may be able to send the post to a forum 9th level hell called sandbox or one of the other post hell holes. Then you will not be able to see it, but it will not be deleted

Usergroup posts don't count toward post count anyway...

yeah there are only three ...no four people that can delete posts,

hecter, it does have advanced permission settings for Moderators, however disabling the board logs is not one of them (however I don't see why moderators need the logs in the first place, and I have told Andy how to completely turn them off, but the mods revolted )

I was also thinking about a group of moderators that would moderate usergroup forums (not as the public forums are moderated, but as the group leader wants), the only problem with that is that all the Usergroup Mods would be able to see the usergroup forums (which lack, Twill, Andy, and King do now)

and no, usergroup posts don't count on post counts

As I said there are only three .... damn... four people that can see all of the Usergroup Forums, and they have better things to do (well, thats what Twill keeps telling me ) than constantly modding usergroup forums.

I'm pretty sure that, with the new boards, it'd be possible to give people mod powers in small sections without letting them see anything huge and/or secret.

...If that arguement fails, I want to put in an application to be a delete mod.

No, not without some sort of mod. I checked, blake is right. Give them any mod powers, they get to see the moderator log.

Ya, well that isn't happening in a million years... You don't put in applications to become a mod here.
