A different way of thinking about bad dice

Postby Itrade on Tue Nov 11, 2008 10:09 am

Whenever a line of dice rolls is used, it's discarded from the file used to generate dice rolls. So everytime you have a bad streak of luck ,what you're doing is getting rid of bad rolls for the next time you attack, and also for other players.

So bad dice are a good thing, kinda.

That logic would be correct if your bad streak ended.

When will mine end!?

The whole point of "dice" or, in this case and algorythm is that the results are random, i.e. UNPREDICTABLE ...

And, despite the many claims to the contrary ... they ARE RANDOM!!!

Think about it this way: There is a list of dice below.

5, 3, 6, 6, 6, 1, 3, 2, 4, 5, 2, 3, 1, 5, 2

Okay, just a random part of dice. Now, lets split it into attacked and defender dice

5, 3, 6 vs 6, 6
1, 3, 2 vs 4, 5
2, 3, 1 vs 5, 2

In all three cases the defender wins two. Now, lets say the dice recycled and you happened to run upon this line of them again, except since not an even amount of dice is always rolled, you start at a different point:

6, 6, 6 vs 1, 3
2, 4, 5 vs 2, 3
1, 5 vs 2

In all three cases attacker wins.

The same line of 15 random numbers was used both times, except one time, you lost all your men, and the other time, you did not lose any.

So it is not exactly that once you roll a bad dice streak, it means that those same dice will be bad again. They could just as well have been good if someone had just rolled a 2 v 1 attack before you attacked the first time.

Also, the recycling thing... 850,000 dice rolled every day. There are only 500,000 random numbers used. Therefore, you will have the same dice rolled twice a day, except those same dice may yield completely different results.

I agree with the OP. Unfortunately the way this works in practice, is that you are clearing out the shit dice for your oppoent to get the good rolls. I have seen too many games where one side has all good dice and the other all crap dice (seen from both sides as a matter of fact).

It never ceases to amaze me at the people who think that the dice are anything but random...at the very least, even if they aren't random (which is a ridiculous postulate, and frankly I'm surprised I'm even considering it right now), you have to understand that they work both ways. Bad dice for your opponent are good dice for you, just as much as bad dice for you are god for your opponent.

Secondly, I am also continually amazed at the number of people who even care about dice one way or the other. I don't think I have ever seen the dice cubes, I have no idea what color they are or what they look like. I look at the overall probability of a matchup, and auto everything. Statistically this has the same result as going one attack at a time (yes, it really does). And I am usually on to the next attack before the images have time to load.

Who are these weird people who care so much about dice?

the dice is totally screwed.....

...i have lost my past 20 games because I have been losing on average 4 to 1.....not only am I losing, the opponent is winning their rolls een when they have fewer armies....can't be that random if it happens in 20 games on a trot...

and it's random yes, but not TRULY random.

when it's 20v1, i rarely lose a unit killing the 1. when it's 2v1, or even 3v1, i'm probably gonna lose all of my units. that's not real randomness. if it was real randomness, then you can possibly win 3v10, which we all know is impossible on cc.

You are defining random as a random outcome.
Most of us define random as random dice, which then are used to determine the outcome.

Big difference.

you're right...the CC admins have a list that they put people on if they dont like them. being on that list gives you skewed dice from the server. :ugeek:   =D> :^o

I'm kinda starting to think that cos it's just continued.....another 2 games down the drain because of an average of 4 to 1 loss on each roll....on every turn!!!!

all you dumb asses need to read more on the neon peon's work. anyone who doesn't like the dice enough to bitch about it in the forums shouldn't play. who cares in the long run. if your truly addicted to CC, just play more games.

For those of you who are firmly convinced that the dice are loaded, as much as electronic groups of white and green pixels can be, build up until you can't loose. If that isn't an option, you have already lost.
