speed game etiquette

Postby azezzo on Mon Dec 08, 2008 3:33 pm

ok, question regarding speed games.
I know how to play speed games, but everone doesnt, even if they think they do.
I admit that I have done this from time to time, but dont practice it much anymore as i've found that it REALLY pisses some people off, and for a few cheap points i've come to believe that it isnt a fair option.

it depends, if you are gaining an advantage that you need, then its fine

if youve already as good as won the game and you are just making the game last longer by not ending then i can understand why people get annoyed

tends to be the better strategy 1 v 1 freestyle, but it is OK to go early as well. Does not really matter. Better to go late if you cannot fort as well, go early if you can fort well.

the question was "is it cheap or not?" not "do i gain anything by doing it?"

It is within the rules, but it is also just one of many reasons I don't play freestyle any longer. I don't have the time to sit at my computer playing "chicken".

If you do it in sequential speed ... yes, I would be frustrated. I play speed games when I want speed, not sitting and waiting. Also, the tactical advantage from missed turns in sequential is minimal for most maps.

why dont you play 2 seq games at once?
that way, you wouldnt have to wait as much

I occasionally do, but you sort of missed my point ... if I am playing speed, it is because I don't want to spend the time.

I rarely play speed games as it is because I am generally subject to interruptions.

It all goes back to that thread about how many people actually post in the forums. You should read it, very interesting...It is possible that there are only a few hundred people that post regularly...
And personally, it is not against the rules to wait for 5 full minutes, because its what you've have each turn. It works for certain strategies more than others. However, it can be really bugging to some if you actually do wait it out. You can be snobby and wait for almost five whole minutes, or be courteous and just take your turn. In a way its like a credit card company suing an individual if they couldn't pay 20 cents of their bill...

Also, what really matters is how those who play freestyle speed games feel. A lot of us just don'e play that game type because we don't like this sort of tactic.

Yea, read my edited post. It all goes back to preference of style of the game and the players in it. Incase you were wondering, I have played speed games before...

The thread I was talking about is right here http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=72076
