seq is now the default when you start a game

i prefer fs myself but im sure new players that dont know how to play it are more likely to stick around if they dont get owned in freestyle in their first game

Not to mention the updates we have had over the holidays.

Nice to know that someone is actually working over break just about a few complaints from people.

Well done indeed =D>

only now, the new recruits will understand what is going on

The only advantage farmers have now is a more intimate knowledge of strategy.

whats the difference in playing a new recruit with freestyle or seq if the map is waterloo ? Either way they are not going to understand it.

oh...I guess I dint understand you. Your saying a new recruit can only start a sequential game? Or just that the box is checked sequential as default and they must now check freestyle to play that?

This helps for new recruits who start their own games, because they are more likely to pick sequential and that is going to be a setting that they understand easier. It doesn't prevent noobs from getting beat up but it does help a bit!

The second one.

It's a simple change, but its great that it was finally implemented. I'm not sure why that hasn't been the default from the start, because it seems to me that standard is the most popular setting.

they are unlikely to mess around with the settings (which is why they used to make so many freestyle games)

Well this is good news. Slow small steps indeed, but at least they are in the right direction.

This is GREAT. I have been writing about this problem for quite a while now. It feels like I just scored a touchdown. I am starting to see some other good changes as well. I.E, Map Rank, and the front page. Keep it going fellas. I believe that a new attitude is coming out of CC. One that is most concerned with the non-farming majority. =D> =D> =D>

I completely agree. With this, and the other changes to help New Recruits improve their rank to start off with, and therefore hurt the farmers, will greatly improve the site for, as you say, the non-farming majority :)
Important Tournament Notice

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

The downside to this is that the rate at which players join the site but don't stay might not decrease. I have no doubt that lots of people join/start a game and expect to be sitting at the computer for the next couple of hours playing the game. At least with freestyle they got to take one turn, and their frustration at realising games can take a long time to complete is slightly lessened by that first turn. Compared with not getting to take a turn at all, I think I would rather take my chances with freestyle.

But if research confirms getting "farmed" frustrates new players and ends their interest in CC, then its just a case of figuring out which is more harmful.

I guess this all boils down to fairness. Just make it fair. I do not care in what manner they do it, ...Just do something.
