There are many ways to manipulate score, and farming is only one of them. You my friend engage in another, more subtle method. That is, jumping on high ranked teams with low ranked players in order to what I call "point gouge" or point snatch. In other words creating an unfair point advantage for yourself while robbing other players.
I have several low ranked friends that are obedient to every order I give them, and if I chose to, I could be ruthless and take them into triples games against teams with colonels+. It would be effectively a 5900 point team against an 8500 point team, though the skill of both teams would be perhaps equal. This creates a huge point advantage for team 1, so that even if team 1 won 50% of games against high ranked teams, overall their point total would continue to climb and climb and climb. I personally find such a tactic cheap and therefore when I want to play with my friends who happen to be low ranked, I start the games the vast majority of the time rather than jump and cheat high rankers (many of whom are my friends) of their points.
Back to the original post, for those who are competitive, farming represents a blockade on their quest to become the Conqueror. There is simply no way to reach the astronomical point totals of the top without engaging in the shady tactics of farming or clicky map freestyling unsuspecting noobs who do not have the same tools. As more players become aware of this fact, there will continue to be a greater amount of players engaging in these activities unless something major is done.
