Alliances - Need Help

Postby fordhamflash on Sat Jun 03, 2006 4:16 pm

I'm new to this game (and loving it). I want to clarify the rule regarding alliances:

(1) It is my understanding that alliances are legal SO LONG AS they are announced in the Game Chat. Correct?

(2) If #1 is correct, can I PROPOSE an alliance with someone via a Private Message and announce the alliance if they accept or must all discussions regarding PROPOSED alliances be in the Game Chat?

Thanks for the help.

I'm not positive if that would be strictly against the rules but i think you should propose the allaince in game chat, its fairer for everybody cos they can offer counter allainces etc and it takes all secrecy and possible cheating out

I'm fine with alliances being proposed outside of the standard channels, so long as the person you're proposing it to knows you're not intending it to be secret. I play a lot of games with people I know from outside the site, so that's how most of my alliances are arranged.

What about after an alliance is formed. It is okay to discuss strategy privately or should all discussions take place in the chat room?

Thanks.

Any alliance or info related to the alliance needs to be discussed only in the game chat (if it is a singles game)......not cool to be pm'ing.....

Personally I have never made and alliance and never will....you will get as wide a range of replies as there are types of h-beings, but I think it is crystal clear that your ally chat absolutely has to be visible to all.

As to the unannounced question...that is a natural part of the game...it is not an unannounced alliance, it is players pursuing the same goal at the same time........

Back to the first guy...hope you love the site and play lots...I respectfully request you do not join my games if your slant is for alliances in a singles game of war...thank you very much and best wishes!

Thanks for the reply.

Don't know if I'm for alliances in every game. It depends on the situation.

I do know that I have played the board game with friends and family since I was a little kid. Certainly, diplomacy and the human element was intended not only to be a part of the game but an essential element of the game. I found "computer" games boring because the computer enemies were not human; there was no diplomacy, alliances, truces and of course, back-stabbing -- all of which are not only essential parts of this game but have been an essential part of the history of war.
