Team games are better because they are fair for everybody. Its one team vs. the other team. Its simple and easy. No hidden alliances. You can play with people you know and work together.
Standard games are a whole set of problems for me. It seems that when i start a standard game and let anybody join they instantly target me because i am a colonel, even if i dont have the best position. As soon as i start getting anything together they ally against me to take me down. And while thats part of the game it doesnt seem too fair to me. The only way i will ever play a standard game again is if its a private game and i know the other players.
Ok as far as being "fair" since when is anything fair in life? use the inequalities to your advantage!!! and as for the people going after you because of your rank... that seems ridiculous because any player with over 10 games should know that rank doesent mean anything in one individual game. anything can happen in any one game...
Well i'll have to put some input here on the argument that followed because alstergren was kind enough to be my partner in my first team game wich is currently still going on. I definantly see the stratagy in there, although it took me a few turns to adjust to the stratagys of fortifying eachother to get maximum useage out of armys and attacking your own team to get a continent etc...
I believe that no type of game is "the best" or more fun they are just better suited for different playing styles and i will list them here.
1) Doubles- all out brawl with little or no diplomacy ( depending on 2 or 3 teams ) gets the action out there right away. Best when played with teams who coordinate with eachother and for people who dont like to wait for action.
2) Standard Sequential - Old School Risk... enough said.
3) Standard Freestyle No Double Turns ( NDT ) 6 players- This is my favorite so i have to admit to being a bit biased on this one however i will put my 2 cents in... This game is great because even if you are dealt crap or have a bad dice roll or 2 at the begining it is possible to come back and win. Contrary to what has been previously said it does not matter what you are dealt out at the begining, with skill you can usually survive to the top 3 with all but the worst dealings. This game also has the most "politiks" because of the abundance of players. Finaly i would recomend this type of game for someone who likes long games where nothing is certain for many moves into the games and who enjoys interacting with others. ( heck sometimes playing as underdog is MORE fun than just being the big guy all the time... luckyly nobody is always the big guy )
4) Standard with 4 people or less... well i hate this kind but maby thats because i stink at it? anyway i find that the initial deal does determine the game with this type of game.
5) Trip's - well i have never played this type of game so does anyone else know what type of player this is best suited for?
aight im OUT who wants a team game?
