i'm not happy with it either.

it's too easy to simply bad mouth for no good reason.

like take this game for instance.
http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=2569052

i kicked green's ass, and won the assasin game nice and square. no chat, just a nice GG at the end.

He leaves me a
4/5 for fair play
a 4/5 for attendence (never missed anything, and never went more than 12 hours between my turn)
and a 3/5 for attitude.

WTF?

attitude? i said GG, and that's all. it's not like he got chatty either.

So, what do i do? I'm tempted to leave him 1's across the board. I realize this is 'wrong', but it's f'ed up that he basically ruined my rating score for no valid reason, and there's no where for ME to respond to the comments. I think that's the major flaw with the system-- not able to leave comments on the score against you.

Negatives (or 1's) WILL come in for no good reason, and i think it's only fair that we be able to respond to our ratings.

Some people look at a 3 as, the average. You weren't bad, but you were nothing above average.

New Ratings are Lame!

They tell me nothing about how a player actually plays. Plus the ability to abuse this is way higher than it ever was before. I worked for over a year to build up great feedback all for nothing. Now 1 idiot in 10 can leave me ones for fun and all of a sudden I have poor ratings and there is nothing I can do about it.

LAME!

Re: RATINGS

Postby kenbeuken on Tue Jun 10, 2008 1:55 pm

Heh, me look stupid? As if I care what anyone on a message board thinks of me... HA!

Id say maybe 2% of the population reads the message boards and knew this was coming. The other 98% had no idea until it was implemented. That means most people that are hear to play the game (not socialize)(thats me) had no input. A simple email or big blue post on the main page would have corrected this. Now all the work I put in for a year is meaningless and some cook can give me all 1's for kicking his ass and make me look like I'm a bad guy. On top of that, I have no recourse to discount his ratings. How is this better?

Before I would wear a badge of honor if I got a neg because I must have done something pretty outstanding in order to deserve it. Now they can be left with no thought and no recourse. What does a 4.7 tell me about a player? Absolutely nothing. There is not even a category to rate how a player actually played? ALl the medals tell me is that a player has played a lot of the same type of game. If a player has played 500 trips, hes goign to have a good medal. Tells me nothing about if he is a good player. I need actual player thoughts that require time and thinking to tell me if I want to play with some one. I never once did not play with someone because they had negative feedback. It depended on what the feedback said and who it was left by.

This new system is lame, thats all I am saying.

I'm pretty new here, but I'll agree that this version of feedback isn't very helpful at all. I don't know what was so bad about the old one. I had my share of negatives, so selfishly it's nice to get a clean slate, but I at least liked having the context in which the feedback was left, and replies to the negatives that were there. This new system is just lazy. Sure it may encourage more feedback, but what diff does a 2 vs. a 4 really mean?

What was the driving force to implement this, anyway?

the point is, they wanted something to 'filter out' the 'bad behaving players' from joining games that don't alow lower rated players.

moreover the moderators were sick and tired about all the pm's about negative feedback, because a lot of people left negs for nothing, and only mods could remove them.

now you can't remove them so the mods won't be bothered with it

well actually you can remove them if you both agree on it.

but i dislike the fact you can not put a comment with your rating though.

I agree, to a point.

I actually like the idea at first, but I don't want to have to click onto someone's profile to see if they have a 5.0 because they played one game with their best friend or because they played with 500 people.

Also, there is no description or reccomendations at all on the ratings, which gets back to the old "some people have one standard and others a different one". In the past, you could at least look in comments to see why someone decided another person deserved a neg ... and, more often than not .. put the person GIVING the bad mark on your list. Now, you get basically zip.

 you are so right about that, i put a dozen of guys on ignore just because of giving out negs for no good reason, even though i only got one neg once and i got it removed for being a 'retaloorwhatever you spell it' neg

i think they should at least allow you to put comments ALONG WITH THE rating, and not just on a wall, noone reads the wall anyways.

The new system looks like a copy of ebay new FB system.
Ebay kept the original FB comments way though.

I dont really like the new way.At least, there should be a way to reply to the ratings left, other than the useless wall.

But, im sure they have put too much work in changing this so they wont go back (or care) like they did with the classic map.
Hopefully they will listen and improve it though.
One of the reasons Ive upgraded to premium was the cool feedback system and now its gone. :(

A lot of folks talked about e-bay in thinking this up, but they missed one VERY BIG factor. In e-bay you have an inbuilt incentive for folks to be honest ... money.

Here, there is nothing. Now, not even the chance to complain if someone decides to give out a neg.

I mean, I got a neg once because a guy decided after the second turn he was going to quit, THEN came back and complained about it being "the most boring game ever!" .. and I got another because I got good dice!

Some folks think that every 1v1 or every freestyle game is supposed to be "real time". Some folks neg basically anyone who beats them.

Even among those who want to do a decent job, there are some who think a 3 is OK and some who think 4 and 5 are the "standard".

Re: RATINGS

another important thing i miss about this ratings, is that you can not review the game itself.

the old feedbacks allowed you to click on a link, reverting you to the archived game, to see why someone has left a feedback (either positive or negative) and you can see for yourself if it's true or not. now with the current ratings there is no way you can see why someone left 5 stars or 3 stars. i think it should link to a game stil.

like: player A leave rating for player B, they play another game, player A decides to change the rating towards player B and player B just leaves the old rating like it is.

now you have a link at the ratings reverting back to the last game Player A and Player B played together, so you can see how they behaved in the game.

i often checked someone's game if i saw some negs or pos's i wasn't too sure about. just to check if someone was worth playing with or not.

with everyone giving out +5 stars left and right without reason, it;s hard to tell who's worth playing and who isn't since now everyone just has 5 stars.

I think we will have a lot more of this bullshit now...

- onkin: No one has taken a country away from PDAL yet.....I guess I will have to step upto the plate since no one else is interested in preventing him from taking over the world...
2008-06-03 18:08:32 - onkin: (sigh)
2008-06-04 00:06:49 - onkin: Sweet, PDAL takes over the world :(
2008-06-05 02:24:01 - onkin: Yo Gloryordeath, we can battle over Asia later rather than now; what do you say to a TEMPORARY truce?
2008-06-06 02:34:11 - onkin: gloryordeath, offer for a truce still stands...that way I can cut into PDAL a little bit...you watch my flank, I'll watch yours...for three rounds...whatcha think
2008-06-06 20:57:16 - runedrig: im sry im having bad rolls and couldn't get pdal at all
2008-06-06 22:13:04 - onkin: no prob at least you tried :-)
2008-06-07 19:05:33 - onkin: RED and GREEN just continue to amass armies on each other's border, and do nothing; and they do nothing about PDAL taking over the world, and do nothing to break his bonus
2008-06-07 19:05:53 - onkin: I SMELL A SECRET ALLIANCE
2008-06-07 19:08:52 - onkin: RED & GREEN, U SUCK
2008-06-08 18:00:28 - gloryordeath: LOL onkin you clearly have no clue on how to play a terminator game. Nor do you know that no member of xiGAMES will ever take part in an alliance in any shape or form.
2008-06-09 02:30:44 - onkin: i don't buy your xigames BS; I think you are full of it with that garbage
2008-06-09 02:37:07 - onkin: also gloryorpest, is the strategy in a terminator game to allow someone to get a continent bonus, and just sit there and do nothing? That's a really sound strategy, pal. I hope PDAL steamrolls your a--!!!
2008-06-09 02:40:45 - onkin: also RED, since you have only won 28% of your games, you have room to talk about not having a clue; I'm a newbie, I'm not expected to know much, what's your excuse, Mr. 509-games-completed-but-still-a-loser???
2008-06-09 03:49:23 - runedrig: there you go onkin
2008-06-09 13:44:04 - onkin: I WENT DOWN SWINGING; AT LEAST I TRIED TO BREAK PDAL'S BONUS; I JUST GOT SOME BAD DICE; GOOD LICK WITH YOUR LOSER STRATEGY AND YOUR SECRET ALLIANCES, gloryorpest
2008-06-09 13:45:22 - onkin: AND NO I DID NOT MEAN "LUCK;" I MEANT LICK, SINCE YOU AND mamatroshka ARE ALL ON EACH OTHERS NUUUUUUTS
2008-06-09 22:40:32 - gloryordeath: that was worth every last click
2008-06-09 22:45:20 - gloryordeath: dang bad dice
2008-06-10 00:17:16 - ganguscalm: what a frickin looser onkin
2008-06-10 12:25:45 - onkin: Run ur mouth about sometihngyou know nothing about ganguscalm; u must be a stupid, little, 90 lb. nerdy freak to even think about commenting on as game game you are not involved with. GET A LIFE, DORK!

Yo gloryordeath,

Game #2544744, PDAL looking pretty strong, and you look like you are interested in going after Australia anyway.

I propose a three round truce; that way, on my next turn, I can stack up all my movable armies in Alaska, and do some damage to PDAL's ever strengthening position.

Whaddayasay????

The negatives gave you a pretty good idea of who was a jerk and who wasn't. A string of people saying "deadbeats when losing" or "very bad attitude" ... etc. is a lot more meaningful than a number. A lot of times, though, it was pretty obvious the person LEAVING the comments was the jerk .. or "all of the above".

I added several of my foes based upon the feedback they left for others.

Now, not only does any jerk we haven't already identified get a sudden "clean slate" (and those of us who built up "good" reputations have nothing, either), but it will be almost impossible to tell who the jerks are unless we actually play, and therefore put up with, the jerks first.

Simply allowing folks to exclude those with low ratings is not the same at all. For one thing, there is no way at all now to know if the bad ratings were deserved or not. If anything, I want to exclude anyone who GAVE more than a handful of negatives, rather than those who have a lower rating. Especially if they have only gotten a few ratings.
