Sentinel XIV wrote:I recently had a discussion with someone from work about playing CC and its effect on my maturity level. First of all, a little information about me and the area in which I live. I'm 28-years-old and live/work in a very rural area in, what some might consider, a "manly" profession. The area I live in is rife with "men's men"; people here hunt and fish like crazy and think doing so makes them more of a man than some. I guess killing a requisite amount of living creatures automatically makes you a man, because anyone who doesn't do so is ridiculed and belittled by those who do.
So, this guy at work sees me checking my games on my lunch break and asks me what I'm doing. Me being the responsible CC diplomat that I am, I eagerly show him the whole site and what it entails. He snickers through my entire presentation. When I'm done, I ask him why he's laughing. He responds, and I quote:
"You're playing a kid's game."
Figuring this to be the opinion of someone who had never played Risk or its equivalent, I ask why he thinks it's a kid's game. He proceeds to tell me that no one over the age of 10 should be playing board games, and that it makes it even more "nerdy" that I'm doing so on the computer. Needless to say, I knew I wouldn't get anything through to him, and didn't feel the need to justify my playing the game, so I just went about my business.
Now, I'm not looking for sympathy from anyone here, because I'm a confident person. I was just wondering if there were other people here at CC that have had other run-ins with this type of person, i.e. someone who sees Risk and other board games as child's play?
And this guys opinion matters because ?
[quote="Sentinel XIV"]It doesn't.
there you go buddy.just keep on having fun an ignore those who haven't seen the cc light.
