I voted for "no. It's called Classic for a reason", but if it were to be revamped, I would not complain. Unless there became 2 'looks' of the same freaking map. That's just stupid, IMO. There is absolutely no need to have 2 versions of the exact same map (game-play-wise).

BUt I can't see the point of two concurretn maps of the same game. it's uh, the same game.

I'd like to see the ocean a different color in classic. Sometimes the dark blue armies blend in too much, especially when they're on Japan. Also some of the Euro territory connectivity isn't so obviously drawn.

That being said, a Doodle Map 2 would be great, with a lot more countries. Maybe if it were drawn with thinner colored pencils and maybe even had some photo collaging on it like a kid's art project with Macaroni. That'd be hilarious.

It's true regarding gameplay but if you compare the Brazil Maps, the difference is so acute as to almost make them alternative maps....
Saying that, would i advocate keeping the old Brazil map to run concurrently with the Revamp? ... Nope!

The Classic is a unique case however, as we saw with the civil war which arose from the last change to it...
Risk is what many of us got hooked-on and ultimately led us to seek-out this god-forsaken mind-trap. So i am not sure but CC may need a Hasbro Risk looking board to ensnare affiliates.

Also because of the strange relationship between player and this particular board, it holds a special and idealised spot in many Players psyches.

So i reckon for these 2 reasons, which are peculiar to the Classic map, it is likely that we would have to keep 2 Classic maps in play. If we were to not, due to resistance from a large portion of the sites users, we may never get to have a Revamp of the Classic at all.

Now that would be rather a stubborn and self-defeating position for us as a collective to fall back to.... No progress because we can't find a little pasture to put out our retired, champion race-horse!!?? ...

I vote to keep the old girl so i can pat her and take her sugar-lumps once in a while!

agree, to a degree... stopped playing Montreal after the revamp... can't stand how it looks now... however, this brazil update is great... the old map i rarely played, because i couldn't stand to look at it.. ha... anyway, as long as the community is brought along through the process, and there is an open debate BEFORE an update begins, i'm down with it... for the most part tho, make new maps!!!-0

i agree with that completely Owen! ... and the Maps coming out of the Foundry and in the works, are absolutely amazing; works of great aesthetic beauty and often with intricate and highly inventive gameplay!

But this Brazil Revamp has made me throb at the Graphic possibilities for my favourite map... and the Classic, all in all, based on its flexibility and application to all the various game settings, has to be my favourite and most played map.
that is the case for the majority here (or at least a large minority, form what the games in play indicate) so i reckon a revamp would be of benefit to a huge number of players here.

Maybe the foundry can work on and submit a few ideas and images for a new version of Classic. If anything is impressive enough, I'm sure it will win over the skeptics. Everyone will simply be sucked in by the sheer beauty.

I must not have been clear qeee, I was talking in answer to the person who said he did not care much either way but if we had a revamp that we should get rid of the original by default...
So i was saying that to hold an intransigent view regarding keeping the old along with a new version, would likely cause stalemate.
I.e. if we are not willing to compromise (and by doing so getting the best of all choices; keep the treasured classic and get a new one too) then we will end up stagnant.

Now if you are saying that you don't want me to be able to play on a revamped version, while at the same time you keep the old... then yes you are stubborn!
And equally if on the other side, someone says "have the New Version but burn the old" that is stubborn too... if that is what it comes down to then and never the twain shall meet.

Fair enough if lack's willing to put in the coding, then we'll just have to argue about which should be the default one.

Plus once the coding is in place why not have multiple skins for every map?

heh.. well i'm all for it but that may scare Lack and the foundry
(default could be the original but with a permanent selection in control panel as Kap suggested... the same as with colour code setting)

Dunno what's so classic about this particular original, it's colors are pretty obnoxious.
A is a nicely refined original and B is a well done and clever update as well.

I think either one (A or B) is a big improvement, but if nobody appreciates the change?
Leave it as is, there's no good reason to have two...
except that I would play either of the newer ones.

About Classic, I didn't vote. Problem is complex. I'd accept new version instead of old one - if it would be "really same, but undoubtedly better"... There are artists able to make it, but I'm not sure that CC has such artists.
If, however, revamp would be MUCH better, but pretty different - I'd accept it, but only with condition that old one also stayed.

There are people who just don't want this map to be replaced, PERIOD. No matter how good revamp would be. And there are MANY such people... (I believe at least 20%; maybe even ~40%)

THEY are important! We have no right to rape their feelings. Especially...

Especially that we have SOOOOO many maps that virtually cry for revamping. If I was in charge, I'd forbid any "Classic related" revamping activity, as long as we had such maps...

I think the second option is no option. Gameplay of the original classic map should be kept, aswell as the recognizable looks. And 2 classics is a no-no to me.
But some delicate finetuning would be nice. Let CC prove it has such artists

Have you all seen the idea that we could toggle (i think that is the correct terminology) between the New and Old map?
i.e. the map would have a selectable 'skin'

Now i am not even sure that this is possible but Kaplowitz seems to think so.

If we could have that, this would obviously mean that the basic land shapes would be similar (i imagine.. but not too much of a problem as it needs to look like the world) and that gameplay remains untouched.
