I don't think so as when I joined there was only 2 or 3 pages on "Join Game"... Then again, this tells a different story:

Though, I find this to be rather interesting...

Very interesting data. If I understand those numbers cairnswk as to games being made it seems we should have double the games out there as average... But I think that's misleading because when I just searched right now, there was also about 3000 public games "available", but 600 of them were on "complex" maps. Of those, over 480 waiting games were on maps that I would consider "farmer" specials: AoR1, AoR2, Feudal, Circus, and Waterloo. So I think it's fair to say that there are more games, but not more "non-stacked" games. Farming in turn leads to point inflation, and due to point inflation in the middling ranks, i.e., most players getting to captain without much difficulty if they want to, then you would have what you propose - less people willing to join games made by the many private/cadet/corporal range because more of players are at very steep part of the point loss curve, and fewer "fun" games get made as less people are willing to go blind against opponents of any rank.

The number of members is pretty meaningless. 270,540 members apparently, but only 21,512 on the scoreboard, which means basically 9 out of 10 "members" have not been active in a game for longer than 30 days! That would be consistent with hector's doughnut graphs. And suggests some real problems if 250,000 people joined and left.

As to members on at any time, there is simple explanation: there is lot of activity going on that is not actual playing. I am on for hours sometimes to check on tournament results, browse foundry (and other forum), answer PM's, check whose made what move in games and game chat with teammates, clan stuff, etc. All those is the "hardcore" zone are probably logged in all day, but playing only fraction of the time.

So true. I occasionally have days where I never take a turn but am logged in the whole time, other than several instances where my computer goes into standby and my internet connection falls out. Although I like keeping it on a refresh every 5 seconds with an escalating speed open.

well for myself i am in only 9 games at the moment which is way down from the 50 to 60 i was carrying
i'm a classic map addict

and aside from that ive been a member for almost a year now, and was in love with this site in the beginning, telling all my friends to join, but the last 6 months or so the love affair has died, i still play, but i feel that c.c. is being run differently and that their priorities have shifted.

i can only assume that lack was smart enough to see the classic map fiasco coming a long time ago, hence the reason for all the new maps, as a buisness man hes trying to keep this site alive thru new maps. problem is i joined this site so i could play classic risk, not the other maps.

i am sure that i am not alone in this,

and c.c.'s policy of keeping its paying customers in the dark and feeding them bullshit may be its demise.

4. All the recent happenings, server outages etc. - People have left due to all the bickering.
5. Live chat - New person goes into live chat and it is a total wreck. Flames, etc etc
6. School starts back up - Many people are playing less games, due to work and school right now.

Add all those factors in plus the people up top retiring somewhat. It will be back up around X mas time when people who do not keep up much with the forums tell others about CC and a new crop is born.

That is just what I think...

can someone explain the wicked thing to me, I don't come to the forums much and I have seen it mentioned a few times. I vaguely remember the poster known as Wicked but would still like to know what the hell happened and why it seems to be such a "scandal".

1) Wicked was a global mod; one of the senior staff, and apparently a "paid volunteer." Hated by many for being "arbitrary and inconsistent."
2) Then, she posted a big apology thread, saying she had been on morphine for lyme's disease for the past few months. Many of those that had hated her, stopped.
3) Shortly afterward, Twill fired her (the reason is disputed); this was the first time many had noticed twill, and he replaced wicked as the new guy to hate unconditionally.
4) A bunch of people got caught up in the drama decided to spam the forums in a "revolution." This was egged on by wicked.
5) Wicked apparently started spreading site secrets that would help people get away with making multi accounts. This, along with everything else, led to her being banned from the forum.

I'd say that there is declining activity, even compared to last fall. As last fall, my games would fill up in about a day or two. Right now, I have 3 games or so that have been waiting to fill up for about a week now. And last week it was about 3-4 days for one 6 player game (and I usually only play Europe and World 2.1).

Also, if there really were that many people in CC (270,000 or so), then how come there has not been a new record for most people online in months? How come I am only seeing people that I have played against several times before joining and creating games? CC was very active when I first joined, forums and games, though admittedly, it seems that the summer of '07 was CC's peak. Then, it has gradually fell in activity with some minor spikes here and there, but nonetheless, it has dropped considerably. For awhile, there was an influx of people, and some would take place of those that left, but now we have people leaving and for almost every 1 person that comes in and becomes at least semi-regular, 3-4 people seem to leave.

Leaned too far to 1v1????

I play a lot of 1 v 1 , search every day for sequential, public games. I used to find over a page, with a few "laggin" time periods mid-day. Now, if I exclude those who put up 40 of the same game (I don't mind that, just don't think they count as seperate players/games really), I rarely find even 1/2 a page of games listed. I cannot even remember the last time the list went to 2 pages ... and that would have only been because of several folks who like to have 50 of the same game waiting at once.

Further, almost every game I post is filled within 5 minutes.

To contrast, if I accidently forget to hit "public", then I get several PAGES of

As for the varied maps... this is definitely part, but not because they are "gimmicky" (again, I LIKE those maps), it is because now we have a lot more choices.

No, the REAL problem is that more and more games are going private. THAT is a muli-faceted issue, best dealt with in another thread.

Could that also be due to the practise known as "Noob-Farming"? The farmers will go and pick out all the low-ranks in 1v1 games before you can get at them...

I am one of those being "farmed' at times ...

It is part of it, yes, but that would not explain why I end up playing so many completely new people, whom I have never played before. The "farmers" are a more or less "set" group.

I've noticed less games on maps I really like... I haven't seen an Age of Merchants game in awhile, for instance.

But World 2.1 is still going strong with 8-player games and the like so I'm happy :D

Never saw the appeal in classic anyways. Any continent with only one entrance is just ridiculous so far as I'm concerned.

wow... the other thread about this is dying, so you pull the last post from that thread to start an all new and improved "the sky is falling" thread. i really don't think it is any of your biz how many premium members there are, unless you own the site or are hold some sort of magical stock in CC. mods, can this be merged with it's sister thread?

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=67436&start=30&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

anyway, sorry classic is gone, sorry you loved it. but guess what? there are 99 other maps that aren't classic and 98 other maps that haven't changed. and i think that number has increased this week. there are several other sites you can go play the "classic" map, a few of them hasbro affiliated. however, all of them suck and have much inferior game play. CC is still a great product, and will survive this, just as it has survived every other major blow to the site.-0
