It used to be worth it to go check out the community tournament area, now....

Simple brackets were always the most popular type of tournament and probably always will be. Nonetheless, fancy and creative tournaments are not dead. There is some very nice stuff on a regular basis.
It's like going to a bar. Draft beer will always be the #1 seller, but that doesn't mean you can't find a Chocolate Monkey or a Singapore Sling if you're looking for one.
That's true, but there used to be plenty of both. Look at it now and it's 99% repetitive with the odd surprise thrown in. If I want simple bracket I'd use auto tournaments.
But clicking thru 25 boring tournaments to find one that's interesting isn't that exciting of a prospect.
last time i tried to do an unusual tournament it didn't fill....
generic unusual tournamentnever had that trouble with a bracket or round robin style. actually i usually do a round robin ---> bracket. auto tourneys don't do that.
also, i don't do auto-tournaments because all the screwball jumbled up settings. i really only enjoy about 3 different sets of settings, and could care less about playing trench or parauchute or all those other zany types.
also, i don't play auto-tournaments because the last one i won i got nothing but an orange star. since that i''ve gotten dozens of orange stars for just logging on. what a drag.
recently i started a tournament giving the players settings choice. they basically all stayed with the original settings offered from about 5 years ago. with the slight exception of trench. out of 22 players i think about 4 chose trench.
