It just makes no sense that they fired her now instead of when her performance was impaired.

While wicked was on the front line a good bit and seemingly every, I am sure lack is busy in the "back room" coding away new ideas, dealing with the server, overseeing admins, etc etc. But I do agree wicked seemed like a team player to me. I will wait to hear the full story from lack.

Wow, well this is all pretty unexpected (and highly serious) business...

Basically, I never really got on with wicked. I've got a list of warnings and bans from her about as long as my leg, and I've started/pitched into as many wicked witch-hunts as anybody. Up until about a day ago (when I noticed all this stuff) there was no love lost.

However, now I'm informed that she's been suffering from Lymes Disease for the duration of my stay things are kind of different. Basically, all is swiftly forgiven and forgotten. I'm sure that (now recovered) wicked is in fact a far better person and moderator than I (and many others) gave her credit for, and news of her illness saddens me.

So there. Wicked, apologies for making life difficult while you were ill. How about a fresh start eh?

As for this 'sacking' etc... It all seems a bit academic to me.

We've all known for a long time that the mod-appointment system here is rubbish. It's always been clearly unaccountable, unsystematic, and entirely assessed on "how chummy with the current mods are you" criteria. We can all name at least five good candidates whose offers of help have been inexplicably refused (despite their clear suitability for the role), and we can all name several mods that have been appointed who we know are sub-standard.

I mean, I understand your anger here wicked. But this is just what the ivory-tower looks like from the outside. The faults in the system have been glaringly obvious for a long time to all of those who are governed by it (as oppossed to running it), and getting them addressed is nigh on impossible. No the admins don't listen, no appeals aren't heard fairly, no you're not allowed to defend yourself, yes the technology could be easily improved... but what can you do? CC has never given a toss about implementing any kind of streamlined improvements procedure and has always been happy to pad itself with beureaucracy and stifle changes with inefficient delays.

In other words: Glad to hear you're not unwell, sorry I made such a pest of myself while you were sick, welcome to our world, we know it sucks, don't be too optimistic about changing it.

Much Love,
DM

Yeah... Twill posted a very long official nothing. What makes you think Lack will do any better? Lack is the tech guy; I get the impression that Twill makes all the website-related decisions, or at least guides Lack's judgment so much that it's the same thing.

(heheh you just wanted to show off your conqueror badge! ;) )

Well this place is always full of intrigue!

Many people hated you Wicki (i am certainly not one.. well maybe a little violent flirting once in a while ;)) but it is practically impossible to disassociate oneself from a community in which we were once ā€˜one of the guys’, growing to a place of official authority!

You had a different style, one which skated between authority and individuality. Perhaps not retaining objectivity in every case but who can do that? Not even Salomon (with an 'o') Buddha or Twildo (the holy triumvirate)
It is very difficult to maintain a position of authority from the ranks, it is why officers go to Sandhurst to be hated but revered.
Those who rise up through the ranks sit in the most uncomfortable of places between knowledge and disdain.

That’s where the metaphor runs out! Because this is not the army… and loathe Wicked or love her she certainly added colour and intrigue to this place. She was the pantomime villain who we all loved to boo.

Twill attempts the other path; retaining distance, husbanding the schism between punter and publican. But is he any less hated? Perhaps in a different way, in the way we despise taxes but he is the object of our scorn no less.

What am I saying? .. not a frigging clue really! .. Maybe that you are both Arses but that every-body needs an arse to get rid of the shit!

I understand that these forums need to be cleaned-up and that the site has chosen to do it in a more ā€˜professional’, less personal way. All I can say is - try not to wash-out all the colour.

The manner it was done in includes that it was done at all, FI.

And Twill, how about some substance, as has been pointed out already you gave us a lot of friendly-sounding nothing along the lines of "You don't know all, this was long in the coming, no I won't tell you the reasons, we LOVE our users and will strive to make this site better, trusst usss."
Come on, tell us the real reasons, give us access to the discussions (preferably unedited), but if you expect people to accept that post of yours as an explanation you're being willfully stupid.

er, what DM said. Except i guess most of the time I stayed out of your way. It's weird, I spend a good half hour on here every day and yet it takes a drama like this to remind me that i do give a toss. EVen that this is all about real people, at the end of the day, and not just goofy avatars and howling lunatics.

In the movies, and hopefully in real life, prison wardens have the hardest time as inmates. But if there's anything to love about the CC community, it's the relatively low levels of communal showers and homemade knives. Welcome to the jungle, wicked. Will you be my s-ser-- s-ser-- se-serpentine?

It was only after a few days, when I started writing all this down and talking to others, that I realized I didn't want to work with you and at that point starting speaking out on the forums and in chat with my newfound freedom.

twill I asked you and lack on several occassions during this last week on what I needed to work on and do to prove I was willing to do whatever to make it work. The first day I found out, I requested to talk to you over email, and you never responded. You only responded via PM with "I don't think you can change", and were dismissive at best. The decision was already finalized before any of you knew I was sick, and you refused to waiver or compromise, so how is that taking my sickness into account? You claimed I acted up with you "before" my illness, when the fact is you didn't come back until the time around when I initially got sick,or did you conveniently forget that as well? I'm not using that as an entire excuse here, but it's definitely pertinent.

Your sickness doensn't matter to the issue at hand.
If your performance suffers, then your out of a job....sorry wick fact of life.

Hate 2 break it 2 u but firing someone because they are ill is illegal bro.

wicked starts a great topic and twill makes up excuses about why wicked got fired. He won't even tell us the reasons which means there were either crappy reasons or no reasons at all. Wicked was open with us while twill wouldn't tell us anything. Until twill can give us a good reason for the release of wicked I will be on wickeds side

Pimperoni,
Thanks for the lesson in HR, but when wicked says "The decision was already finalized before any of you knew I was sick, and you refused to waiver or compromise, so how is that taking my sickness into account?"
The sickness becomes a non issue because it's the employees responsibility to make empoyers aware
And, to boot, she was a volunteer. Volunteers aren't paid employees and therefore not subject to the laws that govern employment.

Why is everybody acting like this is a new phenomena?

This is the CC Admin modus operandi every time anything newsworthy ever happens, "Yes we hear you and we are working mysteriousy behind the scenes. We will tell you when we discuss and decide. No we won't tell you our reasons, no we won't tell you what we're doing, no we won't update you. Really we're just waiting for you to forget about it. We'll keep fobbing you off with 'wait and see' and 'we are thinking about it' until your anger/frustration peeters out, or until the incident is buried under the sands of time".
Ban the vocal ones, fob-off the others, wait and wait until opposition dies down, then never do anything, never give a reason, and never make the vast majority of changes that the community wants and needs.

Wicked is a prime example.
When she was sick and not moderating so well there were hundreds of complaints; but did anything get done for the community's benefit? No.
When she started getting better and questioning the failings of the system from a position of relative power... well, then something happened pretty quickly.

Stifle, supress, refuse to explain, wait for apathy and ennui to set in. It's always been the CC way; why are you so suprised that it's happening all over again?

Look at it as a blessing Wicked. You were likely not getting paid a whole lot and now you can drop all the hassle. You did a great job under difficult circumstance and took the slings and arrows thrown by the trolls and dickheads with humour and dignity.

It is obvious that those in power around here have become way to full of themselves and are filled with self importance far beyond their due (obvious long before this mess). I am bummed I re-upped my premies and was mistaken that the monies were deserved. It is the community and the volunteer efforts on the sites behalf around here that makes this site, not Twill or Lack! Especially not Twill and that has been obvious for a very long time.

wicked, I like you, and yes you were certainly the most visible and probably most active mod on the site, but I can't support you in this one.

And guys, Twill/Lack isn't going to go any more in depth as it would quickly degenerate into mudslinging, which lets face it is what this thread was designed as.

His message was a whole load of pr bullshit, but what did you expect, a point by point account of how and why wicked was fired?
