I like winning,

But when I'm looking to join a game thats not got some newbies in it, the whole list with escalating armies is unlimited forts.

If i start my own style of game that i've been brought up on (i.e. 1 site) they tend to be joined by a deadbeat or two and the first 3 rounds ltake ages

escalating cards is what really sux. it takes a lot of the skill factor out of the game, it makes baby jesus, buhda, vishnu, shiva, mohamed and etc cry

I also hate one fortification.

But I disagree what you said about escalating cards, dissolution... you use skill to build up your armies until the attack hour, and mainly to see the opportunities. Many times, you need prepare them... you need follow a player, having armies next to all his troops... what player choose to do this? You use skill.

I wouldn't say that escalting requires no strategy it just requires a different strategy then flate rate....

I agree, i'm kind of sick of my one friend complaining about how escalating cards takes all the strategy out. Infact I think it adds more strategy, because without the cards thats just one less thing you have to worry about. The more things going on, the more things you have to keep in mind when you make your every move.

Well, they really help make up for the even-distribution of armies at the start of a game (instead of choosing the countries to place each army in, which would admittedly be interminable with subsequent 24-hour turns on here). I think it'd be interesting to allow one- or two-turn unlimited fortifications, and then drop to a single fortification only.

That'd keep strategy somewhat more like the standard board-game rules, where you have to be careful not to attack yourself into a hole, where it's impossible to move the armies out, but you'd get build up your initial starting points.

Another interesting fortification variant would be allow a single fortification, from one country to another, but allow any number of armies from a single country to move to any other country topologically connected by ownership... that is, allow them to fortify along any contiguous path of countries owned by the player.

The latter of those options is already being considered agarvin http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=705

As for what I hate... escalating freestyle. Escalating sequential requires skill but freestyle is just about who gets online at the right time.
