newbies r about to piss me off...

Postby japan_jeff on Mon Apr 30, 2007 4:28 am

what's the deal with the newbies lately? i can't count the number of them that either miss turns right and left, or deadbeat all together. CC fixed it so that they can't join doubles games straight off the bat, they should do something about them joining other games as well.

i could give a rat's ass about the points you don't get when you beat them. but the fact that they bone up games right and left is really beginning to piss me off.

and please, don't give me that we were all newbies once line. yea we were, and i missed one turn in one game when i was new. so i know it's possible to play even when you're fresh off the boat.

now cc gods, it's up to you. or are you to busy worrying about the retaliatory feedback, that is still coming in at mack speed? yet they never disappear, unless somebody pisses and moans about it.

so are you suggesting ''newbies'' should not be allowed to join any games?

we were all new once!
I agree mate. .. unfortunately that little '?' becomes something to dread and eventually avoid. I would much rather not avoid anyone but it is not an easy one to answer.
Maybe:
- Make it less than 3 misses before a kick out?
... but that might hurt the average player experiencing abnormal circumstace.
Or:
- have a maximum of misses for a week?
I reckon it's mostly a problem with brand-new players who start 4 games and then leave after one round never to return. A maximum of misses for new players only might work.. perhaps 5 and you are booted out?

I wonder if there is a way to make it so they can only create games and join games created by newbies.

Crikey! i reckon no one would ever join Coleman.
just imagine in a 6 man game where you were last to play; your first go could take 5 days to come due to everyone else deadbeating... i don't think i would've stayed for another.

I don't think this is a good solution as the newbies who do want to play will be discouraged if they are stuck with a bunch of deadbeats.

How about a limit of 1 newbie per game, that would prevent any one game from being too painful and should keep the games moving, while still allowing newbies full access to the "experience".

I quite like that idea but will be tough to implement in the team game..

also sometimes it is New ones who are in the majority ... it would make them feel very inferior and second class..
Can;t discriminate against them too much. this place can seem cliquey to non-news too sometimes.. elite and super elites, clans and exclusive inter-personal language.

So for someone coming in for the first time we have to welcome them.

Newbies are already barred from team games.

maybe if a new player (non premium) were to be kicked out of all 4 games if they missed 6 of their first 10 rounds (over all 4 games).

What's the big fucking deal?

So some people join, because games don't start instantly, they don't bother waiting around, and they don't come back. Boo hoo.

I don't know what it is about this site, but it attracts so many whining pussies.

that's what i'm saying. let the newbies play each other and if they stick around enuff and not deadbeat every other game, then let them play others. it sucks when you start a 4 player game, 2 newbies join in and then when they find that they're getting their asses waxed, deadbeat.

and thanx for the violin alex, i figured somebody as stupid as you couldn't play it. i'll give it to my daughter, she wants to learn how to play one.

now read what i wrote "CC fixed it so that they can't join doubles games straight off the bat, they should do something about them joining other games as well. " doesn't say anything about them not being able to play at all. but like others have said, maybe give them a few newbie only games until they are allowed to play others. unless they're paying members right from the start or something along those lines. cc has already made it so that they can not join doubles games, so why should none double games be the only ones that get boned?

sorry if that confuses you alex, but i can't make it any clearer for ya.

I am a newbie to the site and have yet to miss a turn, and would not like to be lumped into the general terminology here. It would be unfair for me to pay a premium price and be banned from games due to my status. I have been in a couple of games already that I have had my ass handed to me, but I stayed and played it out. JMO.

The problem is that when new players come to the site they register an account set up 4 games and expect to play them fairly quickly. I would imagine the vast majority When they see that nothing is happening in their games get fed up and just don't return. However there are some players that join that take the time to read the rules and accept that this is the way the game goes, These players will stay and become part of the greater CC community. This is the only way the site will grow. It is a price we all have to pay if the site is to continue to evolve and improve, small growth is better than no growth at all.

well, i'll admit I'm a noob so I'm putting myself at risk by posting here since passions seem high. Here goes anyways, I joined the site with a friend a little over a week ago because we like playing risk. I sit at a computer all day and like to watch the games progress. He just wanted to play risk against me on the computer. He started a game, made one move, and then deadbeated. I have stayed on and am still working towards my first win but loving it. I don't know how to say this gently but I think that this site is terribly inhospitable to noobs and I think that has a lot to do with why so many deadbeat. If you read the forums, noobs get trashed. I searched in vain for some sort of tutorial or demo game that I could play so my learning the mechanics of the game wouldn't 'ruin' it for more experienced players but found nothing. My friend said he just couldn't figure out how to play the game so he didn't come back. In my first two games, I made mistakes because I was unsure how to read the maps and what some of the options meant and lost quickly because of it. I stuck around and learned and now after being in about 7 different games I am really figuring things out.

I don't mean this as an excuse for noobs deadbeating but there is a pretty high barrier to entry on this site and I think it scares off a lot of people that just want to play some risk.
