Monthly Leaders

Postby KraphtOne on Sat Jan 25, 2014 7:54 pm

What appeared to be a fun idea on paper has shown itself to be only an indicator of which player is skirting the rules the best this month...

Under normal circumstances joski playing games he is losing at an insanely slow rate whilst playing the games he's winning very quickly wouldn't even catch peoples' eyes...

He is a good player, no argument there... but theoretically if you play enough games and always play the losers really slow while playing the ones you're winning really fast, your score will increase at a steady rate until the sun burns out... (if you're winning more than losing of course)

The higher your score gets the more games you'll have to play but the logic is still there...

Is this cheating? Should it be? meh, probably not...

But there is a prize given out to the "monthly leader"... and joski should be able to win that title every month with his current strategy and the fact that the "monthly leader" score system is weighted heavily if your score is high and you increase it...

personally i enjoy it, because back in the day you had to look hard to spot shadiness happening... not anymore just look at the top of that list...

and p.s. - when i say playing the losing games slow, i mean slooooooow
Look on my works ye mighty and despair...

If this is true, then we only need refer to what happened to The Crown to see what needs to be done. If it's true.

What The Crown did is a bit different imo. He did it to gain a lot of points, josko is doing the complete opposite, yeah he is getting a very high score, and will win the monthly leaderboard, but he will also loose more points than he would have if he did not play the games he lost slow..

that was a bit offtopic, but maybe the solution would be to take away the prizes, or make them smaller, not sure if people would put up the effort then..
Highscore : 4349 Date : 17.6.12
Rank : 6 Date : 13.6.12

Highscore after comeback : 3985 Date : 18.7.25
Rank : 9 Date : 18.7.25

A smaller medal maybe?
This is just what the monthly scoreboard pushes you to do. If you want to go for it, i guess you need to do the reverted crown method, also known as the josko method... I personally don t really care, but if everybody starts doing this, all losers might last 23h per turn..

What the crown did was very different. He lost all of his points deliberately by holding players hostage (deploying without actually taking turns, with willing hostages), then played all his losing games in one go to become a very low scoring cook. Played the winning games then and shot up the scoreboard taking 100 points off the first few suckers and so forth, while his entire clan was in on it. It was a dumb thing to do lol, but hey, not sure if he even realised how it would affect scores.

Josko didn't take anyone hostage and has been playing all of his turns like he would anyway, just taking longer to take them. Since everyone has 24 hours to take a turn, it's within the rules. From how he's been talking, his motive was to beat his all time high score, not to win a monthly prize. He's already losing the points atm, so he probably won't be top of that board on Jan 31. I doubt he will go to this trouble again anytime soon in order to beat whatever it was. 6,300? Regardless, it still takes skill to win those points against top players and not on specialist settings. There's only a handful of players here who are that good. I wont say he's the best, but he's one of the best.

I do agree (for other reasons) though that the "most improved" scoreboard needs to go. Several people have already been vacationed for point dumping to cook rank at the end of a month so they can win the following month's prize. It's like dangling candy on front of a child, leaving the room and expecting them not to rob some.

Monthly leader has never been my goal. In terms of monthly scoreboard, I agree this would be cheap tactics and therefore my power score will drop down with some upcoming losses so FF123 will get his well deserved monthly leader title. As for my silver monthly medal, I was already on 7000 power score before started to slow down my turns so silver medal for me is deserved.
My goal was only personal high score, and if you map rank vast majority of players who reached top scores, you will notice pattern of big streak of wins followed by streak of losses, so this is something which more or less everyone do when they come to their high score.
I wonder why people always notice the worst from things, why nobody noticed for example that Conqueror opened himself for any challenge that he has received and therefore CC community had unique chance and maybe first time in history that Conqueror was accepting more or less any kind of challenges. I don't think any of my opponents was sad to play vs Conqueror and therefore overall happiness of CC community was increased. No, nobody noticed that but everyone is worried about monthly medal which by the way I will not earn undeservedly on this way.

This is only theoretically. I have contacted officials before starting to do this and reply was basically if I can manage it without missing turns then nothing is wrong but if I miss some turns whilst playing other turns in 24 hours normally then that would be abuse. When you add requirement of not missing any turn then this become only theory because it is not possible to simultaneously take care about so many losing games, and at the same time properly focus on other games and keep winning them. Every turn requires some time to play and at some point 24 hours may become too low.

In that case, congratulations on your high score, Josko.

Sadly, I agree. I think we are mostly grown ups though so it's too bad so many can't just play the game as it was intended instead of resorting to such tactics.

here's a suggestion I did a few weeks ago you might want to weight in. I don't blame the people who do it, i blame bigwham for creating incentives for these kind of things.

Not true Joskoi have seen plenty of players complaining that you will only play your setting, and that was true with me. You did give a few Generals their map or settings, but until as of recent opened your game book. But you are in NO way accepting even close to any challenge. I think if you challenge players, you should in return accept their challenge in return.

Personally i don't think this is cheating... i do however think you've found a good way to ponzi points...

you'll be able to increase points as long as you keep creating games... your losses will only catch up with you when you stop making new games...

the higher your points get though the more games you'll have to make... makes me kinda curious as to what your cap points can get to before the # of games you are playing becomes too much...

i look forward to the science experiment...

i suggest 4 player polymorph hive games... when one of those goes sour it will take months for it to end... 4-5 days for one round... although you seem to be better at the World map, so probably will keep doing that... anywho good luck to ya, curious if you can get to 7000...

and p.s. - no this is in no way the same thing TheCrown was doing...

Already down a thousand points at least. Perfectly legit what he is doing if you have time for 200 games and want the top and are good enough then people should try. But no fun IMO and Josko is a Very good player and deserves being on top. Cudos now take some of my invites

How are they supposed to be able to tell a player when and which games to play their turn. Its not a grey area was within the rules, obviously he seen this from the crowns stunt, and simply copied it within the rules. =D>

Move on Codeblue! Life may have been better when a fellow went down pit for his living and didn't mind his fookin' p's and q's neither but this is 2014! Poomaker never existed, Herpes is a myth and josko has brought in a new age of scoreboard prosperity for the masses. Though frankly it must be admitted that our fellow now works in a call centre watching his testicles shrivel by the week, while his grandad sired fifteen children a year from the same mare, but this is just how things are in the 21st century.

According to those finding fault in what I did, manipulation is manipulation. Is 6,300 a true reading of josko? No. Is it a high score for him? No, because it was done with manipulation. Would he have ever got there over time? Maybe in a few years, he is a good player. I love how hypocritical things can be on this site and with quite a few people in mind.

Now you have the hypocritical Gilligan point dumping again right as the month is ending....hmmmmm, curious. Couldn't stay up there as a Colonel, but somehow have slid down to 3-stripes, losing 1600 points. Yes, leaderboard is a joke and needs to be dismantled.

Sorry Crown, while I thought what you did was hilarious and took time to achieve, it was gross manipulation and took advantage of your position as leader of your clan.

Josko has been playing his turns as he would have anyway. He didn't drop and end in any games, just played some faster than others, but all within the allowed 24 hours, plus all of the people that he played against were high ranking players. i can't see how you can compare what you did to how he played. He had to be good to win those games in the first place since most of those players were pretty damn good. He also lost a lot more points than he gained from those games because the drops were higher once he got up there. His score should be somewhere nearer to the 5k mark. He could have farmed his favourite map and settings, but he didn't. That's why I respect him as a player. He's conquerer because he deserves to be and earned his position. When you did that crazy thing you did, you didn't deserve the medal. I can't believe you're comparing.

As I said, it needs to be removed for other reasons. Mainly the point dumpers who drop their score at the end of every month and most of who wind up banned. They're morons and the temptation shouldn't be there for them in the first place. Then there's the other morons who join those games to get 100s of free points.
