Missed Turn Multiplier

Postby fordhamflash on Wed Jun 07, 2006 11:08 pm

I know I saw this topic somewhere else, but I really do not like the multiplier for missed turns. It rewards people for NOT playing and seems to punish the more proactive players. I wish there was a way to "filter out" this feature.

how could anyone benefit from it?
if you missed last turn, you get twice your armies this turn.
the only way to benefit from that is if you GAINED lands last turn without actualy taking a turn...
if you lost any lands, you'll get less armies.
if last turn you had a whole continent and this turn you dont (cause someone took one of its pieces while you were absent for a turn) then you dont get squat for that continent....

Here's the scenario... First turn in a game, Red goes first, but doesn't take his turn... Everyone is pissed off at that (If it's seqeuntial it's even worse), no one can take any of his 3's out of Europe (He's been dealt 4 of them) without taking serious casualties.

He does not want to put only three onto one of his countries in Europe because he does not want to risk casualties and leaving himself open, so he misses his turn and no one takes any of his countries in Europe. He then has his 3 multipied to 6 and puts them down, he can now easily take out Europe with them, and is in no different position to when he started...

Now this is not cheating, but boy does it piss me (and I'm sure a lot of other people) off, not only does it hold up my games as I'm only limited to 4, but it's bloody annoying in game, especially if you are dealt in the same continent as him, as he can just stroll through your countries...

i see your point, except for one thing... other then this theoretical red player being a bastard by holding up the game... how is this any different to hip putting his first turn 3 armies into one territory, and then adding the next 3 into the same territory on turn 2?

as i was writing that, i realize the one advantage he gets from this... he gets to chose where to put all 6 of his armies during turn 2, instaed of some at turn 1... which could help him make a better decision there if anyone has walked (or attacked with) troops out of his starting location...

is this what you meant?

Yup, trust me, it does give an advantage, I've seen a game where it has happened...

Ah, this old chestnut. For an in-depth discussion, see the thread on Missed Turns that I bumped from page 5.
