I'm down to two active games from an average of about 20 since I joined this past May 28th: number 250 and 251 on my list.

I've played almost exclusively 4-6 player standard-sequential-escalating-unlimited on various maps.

I've plowed my way through 200 or so public games and then set up 50 or so private games, which means I've actually had a few go 13+ rounds.

So what's next?

Freestyle rocks, but the kind I like takes hot routings to the server, which I don't have, so I can't focus on those.

1vs.1 standards are fun, but not really challenging enough. I still might focus on those for a while.

No-cards I've never been into, but I could be talked into 100 games or so with the right group.

Doubles and Triples: meh...they're just 1vs1 with a new shirt. (although the whole cross-reinforcement thing is a fun twist)

Fixed-rate is ok, when I'm in the mood for more luck-variability, but forgive me for refusing to play those with a wide rank range of opponents. You know what happens when someone gets three mixed sets in nine rounds with a couple bonus-owns in each set? Game over.

Speed games? Nice but not great for escalating players who count on setting up board sweeps. Next rev. waiting.

I like terminator escalating cos it just puts more emphasis on the eliminations which I often make a lot of. Then again, I seem to be winning a good few of my standard escalatings.

As for assassin... well my experiences haven't been good. Each time I've been miles away from my target or someone else has fucked it up. If you want to play it then make sure you're playing with good players because it only spells trouble otherwise...

That's because you've got a solid handle on the game. I've watched you play, remember. You're good. No shit.

I played one assassin game and somebody fucked it up.

Terminator though sounds intriguing. I like the whole elimination thing (at the game level, you sick bastards)

I played one assassin game and fucked it up myself.

I played many more since then and had some real nailbiters, especially on no cards adjacent. If you've got patience, try it, and if you can get other people than new recruits to join - perfect.

It certainly is different. You often find that the leader will be allowed to grow and that the other players will just try to kill each other. Depends if you like that sort of strategy but, then again, if its escalating then any game can be turned around, especially since there is already so much importance placed on the eliminations

Flat rate is where its at. Play against decent opponents and the luck factor is much less than in escalating I think (since you aren't so reliant on sets). And its not as slow as no cards, so you can really plot out your moves and make good attacks instead of always just building. But of course many flat rate games become build-a-thons as well.

i like 1v1 speed games, short and simple.

... unless they last 70 rounds...

1vs1 speed games are all luck.

I agree with sully - flat rate, a few good players and a reasonable sized map - takes a while but its closer to being a skillful game than many of the other styles.

Its frustrating waiting for turns in casual, so speed games offer relief from boredom for me, but often at the expense of other duties.
