Might I suggest (even though I'm nowhere near 2400 points) that it is because 1v1 is too much about luck?

Thats true but from my experience luck is not all that it takes to win 1v1. Im addicted to 1v1 but compensate with playing only against those who are max 200 points below. That way I dont lose to many points when defeated. Actually I think the score would be positive in my case, probably bcuz of my skills 8)

When both players are good its almost entirely luck. They get a bit dull because of that.

colon. vs colon.

I'd agree that it's because 1v1 is a crap shoot and nearly always won by the player that get's first go.

What map and setup do you believe creates the fairest contest for a 1v1 game?

Hard to say what map and setup creates the fairest contest for 1v1s. :-k
Fitz has a good point there, even the worst drops & being 2nd can be neutralized quickly with great dice. And even better bad dice for the opponent at the same time yours kick ass. Seen it happen.
Everything, good & bad, can happen in 1v1s, but I dont think about it that way, just want a good fast fight!
Of course, mice and keyboards get broken when unreal shit happens in that important crucial moment ](*,)

i havent played that many 1v1, but id say one out of 10 or one out of 15 arent decided immediately on the first or second round... those are indeed the fun ones

I tend to play the bigger maps when I play them because it gives more chances for good play to triumph over bad dice....

However, i do typically laugh at the players that pat themselves on the back for winning a few in a row that the dice clearly handed them, and then complaining about the dice being the only reason they lost the others. Its kind of fun to watch their ego at work.

Ive won many in a row against one person, and lost many in a row against one person... not to say mistakes may not have swayed a game or two, but in the end... the dice and possibly the cards will determine nearly every 1v1 game with equal, or equalish players...

I played a few games but ultimately they are not satisfying because luck/dice is everything so there is no real feeling of achievement, the real adrenalin rush is going through the field in 6 player escalating :D

I've won all my 1v1s when I get first go and only managed wins from second go in games with cards on the World 2.1 and Age of Merchants maps.
