I've always wondered why Australia gets 2 army bonus when it has only 1 territory to defend.
Likewise why does NA get 5 armies for only 3 territories being defended?

Because it works.

How many territories does Oceania have, and how many territories does North America have?

Ok, got it? Good.

It has two points because that's the way Risk, the boardgame, does it. Despite how much the CC powers proclaim "We are not Risk, we're Conquer Club!" it originally began as online Risk. Altering the point value for Oceania would be like changing one of the freedoms from the First Amendment...or something like that....

I see.....
Europe should definitely get more armies in dat case by wat u guys have been telling me.
Nearly equal number of territories, but it's harder to defend.

Nearly equal? 7 in Europe, 9 in North America. That's more than 25% more in N. America, which is a lot. With a good drop, you can take Europe very early, so keeping it in range in important.

It makes sense BECAUSE it works. That's what it means to make sense. If you wanted to, you could change all the bonuses, but it would change the way you play the game. Try it with your friends: give one for Australia, and 6 for Europe. More people will fight for Europe and S. America, fewer for N. America and Australia.

Don't like the map? Make your own. Submit it in the map foundry. If it's a good map, it'll make ti through and you can play your own map the way you think it should be played.

Until then, it doesn't make sense to complain about a map that was already established, let alone the oldest map in CC that has a basis far older than the computer. let alone CC.

another things about europe is that each country is at most three away from another country in there, america cant be attacked from 1 or 2 countries as easily

one point: south america has the same number of territories as Oceania except it has two borders to protect....yet they still have the same bonus.

now that's unfair :)

I've no skill with map making :P and no interest as well :)
I just wanted to check this fact out to see why it's like this.
And yes, SA and Australia have equal number of territories as Koronna says and it's still the same number of bonus armies
And let me clarify that I'm NOT complaining. Just wondering why it's like this. That's all.

The 50 year anniversary should be this month IIRC! Also check the Wikipedia, they might know how it was developed.

Buy a risk board, then you know why its not going to be changed ;)

Australia is worth 2 since it is right next to asia, a nearly impossible continent to conquer.

The rating of a continent should never be solely determined by how hard it is to hold, but also by how hard it is to conquer. Once you get Australia, its easy to hold, but because it is easy to hold it is highly contested, usually 2 to 4 players are going after it right out of the gate.

The main reason why I don't like Australia as a starting continent. There's nowehere to spread. Usually you have a person in N. America going down into Asia, someone from Europe, and in my experience, a single player usually nabs Africa and S. America, so the Africa is spreading into Asia as well.
