please note that players a can win Free Premium memberships by winning tournaments which is also classed as gambling!!!

I will pm Lack about it!!! But all i wanted was to gauge public opinon to see if indeed there is a market for this type of Tournament!!!!

Setting up a game for money is indeed gambling, which CC cannot condone. Just because the game hasn't happened yet is irrelevant; it cannot be set up publicly on the forums. If you disagree with this, Lack is not the person to PM; PM Twill instead. If I could, I'd bet you money you're going to get the same answer from him that you do from me.

Or I can save you the trouble, and quote Twill from last week in this thread:

Twill wrote:Sadly because there are a lot of US players on here and US law (I think still) makes online gambling illegal, well, then, that would be a bit of a problem with the whole gambling thing....that's one reason why that [no gambling] rule went in.

It's quite easy to block IP address's of American users from entering the Touranments were cash "gifts" are invovled...But will discuss that with Twill!!

Im not looking for any profit myself but it would make Tournaments so much more interesting!

Conquerclub could also charge a "rake percentage"...Now that would be interesting!!!

I know Twill will be happy to discuss it all with you, thanks for understanding. (not being sarcastic, he really will be! lol)

Gambling may not be involved, but offering rewards with cash value is permitted, correct? Gift cards, etc?

Idiots. take to either PMs, or at least e-mail when discussing these topics. Ha ha. And you're wondering why they lock topics.

Simple answer (because, despite what wicked says, I can actually talk longer than a girl, but will save you all the trouble):

At this point: No.

Longer answer, if you care:
Our servers are located in the US, as such, we have to follow US law on these things or CC goes bye bye.

Rake tournaments, pooling money with the intent of awarding the pool based on a "game of chance" (which this game would be under law I believe), or even advertising such games is still a no-no in many states and so is a no no here.

The second reason is hell no I ain't going to multi hunt every person who joins that pool nor am I going to entertain any secret alliance complaints from anything involving money because it's way too much work and we aren't going to be held responsible for it, for obvious reasons.

We're not a gambling site, never will be, never wanted to be.
You are more than welcome to go set up your own game site if you want to host something like this, but not here my friend :)

Hope that explains it, and if it doesn't well then just accept the fact that we wont let you host a for-money or money-pool tournament here, so there's not really any point in posting a thread to see if there is interest now is there ;)

oh, and don't post links to other threads of yours on other boards, it's just bad manners.

Have a good one guys.

just asking to avoid confusion.

in my country internet gambling is ok. so i do a website where i host a tourney collect entry fees and give prizes.

but the tourney is held on CC. normal games. and the winner of that tourney gets the money from my website not from lack's

is this considered illegal?

if a us citizen joins does he break the law?

my answer. yes, but i'm not sure.

can lack be held responsible for this?

my answer. no, because he doesn't endorse me in any way and my tourney is hosted on another website and i have nothing to do with lack. and the games are simply games. it's just like 1 play 1v1 with a room mate for 10 bucks. it's gambling and it's on CC but lack has nothing to do with it.

You are asking tough questions which I can't answer without a lawyer or 5 checking it so I'm going to jump on the side of caution and say

No, you can't :)

Any mention on this site of a tournament being held off-site (which would generally need to happen or happen by accident if you wanted members from here taking part) but using our facilities would violate our rules, even if just pointed to another site. We dont want to be a party to anything possibly illegal. Risking our servers being shut down or worse happening over a $25 pot really isn't worth it, is it?

And again, someone WILL whine about multi abuse, secret alliances etc etc etc and we are going to have to deal with it. People do stupid things over fake points, imagine what they would do over real money.

Sorry, dont want to be the complete ass here, but you understand where we are coming from - people with millions of dollars worth invested in online gambling and lawyers to defend it can't win against the US gov't, CC wouldn't stand a chance if someone came at us.
Have fun, it's what you're here for, don't make it about money.

Have a good one

It's also quite easy to use a proxy server. Even I can do it.

I see your reasoning Twill...However free premium meberships are offered to winners of certain tournaments in this not classed as gambling as well!!

That's because the players aren't putting anything forward when they enter the tournament. If they were, it would be considered gambling.

Yup....it's a prize, not a pool. If that makes sense.....

i understand why lack will probably never allow gambling here, but it is a fun notion to entertain, like even if it wasnt for money, but perhaps ppl gambling days of their premium away, like me and hulmey play a game and the winner gets a day added, while the loser gets a day subtracted...

Unfortunately, even using the 1 day "bet" as an example would qualify as gambling - plus that would require explicit cooperation (as opposed to tacit - which is still against the rules) by CC..

One day of premium is worth about 5.5 cents American.

$20 = 2,000 cents

2,000 cents / 365 days is approx 5.5 cents/day
