Your homecourt and why it's home

A lot of tournaments have the option of player-specific "home courts" - the map and the parameters just the way you like them. So I figured I'd ask around why people choose the ones they do.

So I'll share one of my favorites:

Arctic, Flat Rate, Adjacent, FoW ON.

Lots of space to operate in, and it being the Arctic, one shouldn't really be able to see past your own nose, right? Snow blustering everywhere, death by polar bears, etc. Plus with the conditions the way they are, troop movement wouldn't exactly be a jump into a helicopter, now would it? So movement becomes a bit more deliberate.

Just that touch of realism I like to go for in my games. :) How about you?[/b]

My settings would usually be:

Escalating:because it is what I'm best at. Ignoring continents and setting myself up for kills is what I love. Flat rate and no cards I can play as long as its open. Build games are too tedious.

Unlimited:simply because I like to be able to move mass numbers of troops at certain stages (i.e. round before an elimination). Chained I don't mind but adjacent is pushing it too far for me.

No FOW:It just doesn't suit my gameplay. If I want to make eliminations, I need to know where to eliminate. It's been a clever addition to the site, but not one I like personally

Map:
I rarely stick with the same one but I prefer a medium sized map, such as classic, Alexander's Empire Tamriel or Middle Earth. It means that continents won't be important but it does make a slightly longer game

For 1v1's I like FoW, Unlimited, no cards, Seq, Age of might

I'm unstoppable besides for herakila who defeated me.

Depends on how many players/game type.

If it was doubles: Alex's Empire, no cards, unlimited, no fog

If it was 2 player: Doodle earth, no cards, unlimited, no fog or maybe Age of Might no cards chained foggy

If it was 6 player assassin: Classic, no cards, adjacent, no fog

If it was 6 player terminator: British isles, esc, unlimited, no fog

I it was 6 player standard: Siege!, no cards, unlimited

Map: Bamboo Jack or Asia

Forts: Chained or Adjacent... I dislike Unlimited because it allows the luck of the drop to dictate too much of the game.

Cards: None or Flat Rate

Definitely Sequential!

FoW ON

Aesop Jones, I think I was in one of your Arctic games....did not go well for me. :P I love the imagination & realism offered by your setup....but I am far too spoiled, and I love unlimited forts. Fog of War I don't like....I need to know what's going on. (even though you can fill in gaps by careful reading of the game log sometimes) Escalating cards to me is just ridiculous, uninteresting, no-strategy-at-all crap. I enjoy flat rate, but even then sometimes the card luck can drive you crazy.

My homefield? I think I'd go with British Isles, FoW off, unlimited forts & flat rate cards. Love calling Ireland/Scotland home. ;)

Crossword. Does it need any explaining?

And usually Flat Rate (as I just like it the most), Unlimited or Chained fort (depends on my mood) and no fog (it just isn't calling for me).

oh my god, at last, someone says what we all hold closest to our hearts!! what i hate now is how the scroll downs work when you are attacking and show people things that they wouldn't have realized otherwise. there are so many sneak attacks in world, it is just a blast to watch people make mistakes fortifying!!! age of merchants, half the people have never read the legend... i LOVE when people don't know what is going on with the map!!!!-0

ditto here except for Unlimited. I am so used to Chained that I even forget to click End fort in Unlimited games.

king of the Mountains, no-one picks it/ knows how to play it (Add unl, seq, esc/ flat rate to that)
