Calling out an opponents position in a game of Fog of War?!?

I am curious as to what the general consensus is. Is it ok to call out your opponents armies? Why would it be an option then if you think it is ok. Why is it not a rule that you cannot when it is employed as an option? I think it is extremely poor sportsmanship and should be banned.

Generally speaking... it's a pretty lame thing to do.
Don't appreciate the fog ? Choose another option.

You might use it strategically to win, but it won't win you any friends. Just like real life.

2008-02-26 13:25:02 - camilavillegas: Interzone, can u do something?
2008-02-26 18:49:40 - Dr_Demento: hey, I don't have that much :-P
2008-02-26 18:50:29 - Dr_Demento: speaking of green, you should see europe lol
2008-02-27 06:08:49 - Dr_Demento: green, I'm suprised you could be so easily fooled. Yellow is just mad because I slowed his growth into asia. He's still sitting with massive armies in India though
2008-02-28 06:52:33 - Dr_Demento: hey green. look at the log and see who's getting the bonuses :-)
2008-02-28 06:52:55 - Dr_Demento: I tried to tell ya
2008-02-29 06:44:02 - camilavillegas: blue, you have all Africa, so stop turning green against me...and yes, look at the log and se who got all the bonuses: you
2008-02-29 23:07:22 - Dr_Demento: i held it one turn and what are YOU whinning about? Don't you recall "interzone, can't you do something?" lol
2008-02-29 23:07:32 - Dr_Demento: turn about's fair play :-P

Seems to me that whining about having your location revealed is about on par with whining about being attacked by multiple players.

It happens.

Spys are never liked by those being spied on, but given the opportunity they sure will accept info on the other guy.

There is already too much negative feedback out there from people whose main gripe isn't that the other person cheated but because they didn't play the way they wanted them to.

If it isn't against the rules, petition to get it changed, suck it up or find a new hobby.

I think its bad show in principle...however this is a game of winning by any legal means possible. I wouldnt do it but wouldn't scorn someone who did. Id just go out my way to hit the bad sportsmans armies (including if the intel was beneficial to me).

You're a joke. You should respect what you preach:

IMO, it's perfectly fine. But you can certainly keep whining about it or leave neg feedback about it too.

I don't see any harm in it.Who knows if what they say is true for one.Plus when I have a chat window I am going to use it.

Chat rooms are for communicating, you might not like it, but that's war! Like spying on the enemy, it is okay to tell other players info (and you could feed them disinformation as well).

Nothing wrong with this style of game play. Nothing in the rules against it from what I am aware of.

And you can so tell what continents people have just by reading the game chat. I announced that one time, and boy, some people got really pissed at me. But it is all there in black and white if you bother reading the game log.

Nothing wrong with revealing positions in FoW.

I want everyone to lose for me... so I should probably give everyone who beats me a neg. ;)

That was a joke people.

I agree with your point... lots of negs when there's not a real good reason IMHO. At the same time... someone who just shouts out every little tidbit of info in FOW game is annoying.

Though I think pointing out the leader to people not paying attention to the log is fair. I also think it's fair if you find a giant stack somewhere. I mean if you see most people have like 5-10 on their borders... and you run into a 40 stack... letting people know about that seems reasonable.

Whether they believe you or not...

I also find that if you point out the leader... you generally become a his next main target. ;)

You never know if what they say is right. My general experience is that whenever you have somebody post up intel on opponents in the first 2-3 rounds, then the poster's probably manipulating you, especially in a 3 player game.

In any game that's 4+ player, I'll post up intel if I need help or see the balance of the game headed down a bad way from the game log, but sometimes, just like our RW leaders, I end up posting bad information, so definitely its risky to rely on.

If there is such a big stink about it, maybe someone needs to make a suggestion of allowing a "No Game Chat" option? I could only see this option being used for FoW games. But truthfully, I wouldn't probably play a game with out a chat log.
