i like starting borun or aoria, dont mind ghyr or mua either. never could warm up to those north-east ones... might have to do with the frostbite

Mua. Its the easiest place to get an additional village to up your army count. You can then easily stop Xi and Figye from getting their resource pairs if need be.

i don't care where i start. all of them have pros and cons depending on gametype number of players and opponent quality.

I don't like Borun .. but there is no real reason, I just seem to rarely get rolls when I start from there ... : )

Ghyr
Borun
Mua
Xi
Figye
Aoria.
If 6 player, I'd ask for Aoria over F / X
To play Ghyr = > Ayr = > Eon => Vesk? Ikalu? Options.
But i'm shying from this map now, seems to be too well figured out by the general players.

6 player games:
Ghyr and Mua is best according to me. Closed followed by Borun.
From Ghyr and Mua it's very easy to come up behind and eliminate the ones in Borun/Figye/Xi. Or at least break their resourses.

I tend to favor Ghyr and Mua above the others, no matter how many players. I would have to say that Figye is my least favorite place to start.

in 2 or 3 person there are so many combos that most work well together especially figye and Mua, but in 4 or more i like ghyr the most, followed by borun then mua after that its Aoria and then Xi with figye last, the resources of xi and figye being next to each other tends to mean that its very hard to win since the opponent will be fighting over the same land.

It depends on whether there are cards or not. Without cards GHYR is my favourite. With cards BORUN and AORIA...
AORIA is the only place where you can reasonably acquire a pair in round 1. I have done it twice.

Wait reasonably? you would have to win against a 6 then a 3 then a 5 to get it and you only have 8 armies, how thats reasonable i dont know.

You are lucky on Butchery (without losing armies), have 7 left to attack, try your luck on Dru or Aheo - lucky again, so you can have 6 against rabbit farm. All the moves are sensible and not risky...
If I can get 5 against Rabbit Farm in round 1, I always go for it (It happened 3 times, and twice I got Rabbit Farm in round 1)

however if you only take butchery you are telling everyone where you are so in a non 6 player game that is a bad thing, and in a 6 player game it is still bad just not as bad.

I only play this map with 3 players, and the best duo drop (as you get two castles) is EASILY Figye + Mua. Second best is Xi + Mua. You deploy on Mua first turn and end, don't do anything. Second turn, deploy on Mua again (you have 15 armies). Use Figye 9 that autodeployed there to take Timber mill, use Mua to go up to Aosa + Sler + Lumber Camp. You just got yourself 2 villages + a resource pair on round 2, congrats.

There is no way XI is better with one castle. It sucks even if Fygie is empty. Otherwise, you either need to take over Fygie, or negotiate a truce with a player there letting everyone know where you are.

When playing with folks that you know are just looking to come out to the docks hunting and will very often leave themselves completely defenseless trying to knock you down, how would you play from Ghyr?
http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=2769724I've played a few games against Bolo and bazmac. In a couple (to maybe 3?) I've somehow come back from having a single castle after he risked it to win the game. However, I have had some games where I didn't have the best dice and their coming out after people has put me away early.
Knowing this, what to do from Ghyr? Go for the pairs or go to the docks and hope I don't get caught with bad rolls plus an opportunistic player that gets to play twice after me?

I agree definitely my favourite way to do it.

exactly.
i sometimes take 1 roll at Ubb on 1st turn - if its speed freestlye - due to boredness - but taking it is stupid. do that in mayhem and youre fucked.
