so you're playing maybe a 4 or 5 player classic game and you start with two territories on either aussie or sa. the other players on the continent have only one continent each, and your move is before theirs anyway. do you go for the early continent grab, or take the extra turn? it's 9 on 6, so the odds are in your favor (slightly), and the game is young so people tend to be more occupied with consolidating forces and getting bonuses of their own to be bothered with breaking up a +2 bonus... if you go for it, do you divide up your 3 armies (2 on one country, 1 on the other) and attack from both of them, or put all 3 on one and attack with six?

i allways go for the early continent and allways put all 3 on one to make 6, a bonus of 2 a round more than everyone else is quite a lot in early stages imho

depends on the dice, if I don't lose more than one army while taking the first country I'll try at least one attack against the second as well, otherwise I'll wait.

yeah, dice does matter. usually i don't attack there the first turn. on the second and third rounds, I'll attack 3 vs. 1s and stuff like that. i might also put some backup armies in another continent. Eventually I'll go and take the entire continent and then just work mainly on strengthening the borders. about fortifications, i don't usually do them in the beginning. hope that helps...
