Conquer Club

This is probably a really stupid question, but if I was interested in spending some time trying to make a map, how would I go about doing it? Do people use existing maps and alter them or generate an entirely new map from scratch?

I'm really fascinated with the Map Foundry portion of the site and interested in getting involved in it, but I have no idea where to start or who to talk to.

All of the maps are made from scratch (apart from a few small images included).
Designed, organized, and created all by a mapmaker or a group of mapmakers.

thanks for the links, guys. So do you design the map first and then post it and see if it has enough support to move forward with it? or do you shop the idea first?

different people do different things to start their map.

Generally, if its a simple map (no really strange gameplay) people post an image first.

If it is a more complex map or uses a new gameplay style, the idea is usually posted first, because if no one likes the concept, theres no use making an image (a VERY rough draft is sometimes included in the more complex maps to show the basic idea of the map)

and see if people like the idea. (make sure that when you post it tell that YOU will be making it, or else someone else might take the idea.) Post with a "I am going to make a _______ map. do you think it is a good idea?"
