Unlimited forts

I'm a little confused as to exactly how unlimited fortifications work. Yes I realise that you can apply forts without limit, but conditions seem to change from game to game.

For example: In some games terits have to be adjacent and in others they have to be on the same continent and in yet others fortifications appear to be unconditional. Is this correct or am I missing summat?

If I am correct how do we find out beofre commencement of play. It would help to know, methinks.

Love me x

Unlimited means as you said you have no limit on the number of times you can fort. However you can only fort from one country to another if ther eis a chain of countries connecting the two.

and Chained fortifications means you can fort just once accross territories that are linked together and adjacent fortifications means you can fort just once from a neighboring country.

So the FORTIFICATIONS listed with every game has a big impact on tactics and gameplay.
