Ok - So there is a thread of CC All Time top scorers. It seems to me that list is a little unfair because it fails to account for leverage, like playing 100 8 player games at a time with big net points at stake.

On the one hand, there is leverage. Take a freemium player who nets say 20 points/week playing at the max cap of 4 games at a time. If the player had been in 40 games, they'd presumably be netting 200 points a week (up to the point where there's nobody to challenge "up" in rank/points).

Also, there is the snooze effect of multi-player games. A freemium player who locks in to four 8-player games will be taking, say, four turns every 8 days or so based on average turn times, deadbeating, etc. Boring. And inconsistent. The pipeline can get exhausted and you can get no points for days as games are in the early stages. But these are the big payday games that bring in 100+ point gains. Without them, how tough would it be to get to Colonel or Brigadier? Yes, it's a lot tougher, IMHO, to make it to the top of the leaderboard as a freemium. So I'm creating a place to recognize freemium players... a Freemium Hall of Fame.

It works like this.

1) You have to be nominated to get in.
2) The nomination has to be seconded by at 1 person who has lost a game to the nominee, and 1 person who has won a game against the nominee.
3) To be eligible for nomination, the player must have made it to the top 200 on the leaderboard (that would currently be ~1%), and at the time of nomination be currently in the top 0.5% of the leaderboard (anticipating the site will continue to grow), all while being freemium continuously, have played a minimum of 500 games, and have a win rate of at least 50%. (I'll have to see how this can be verified...)

I think that will be a good way to recognize some of the otherwise understated talent.

So nominate away. I'm not promising anything by way of managing the follow up, but I'll do my best.

Owen, owen, owen... I knew somebody would gun jump here, so that why I had to post the empty second post and then go back to edit it. It should now answer your questions. If you don't care, you can just act like this thread doesn't exist :-$

Better yet! Hearing of a guy who makes 100 1vs1 games and then deadbeats and then joining all his games!

I think the "it works like this" criteria looks pretty good, yet any freemium can be eliminated
from elite silver status by a simple gifting of membership.

Didn't thik of that oVo... I wonder if anyone turns down gifted premium?

I guess the point is not that you have to be freemium forever, just have to accomplish the milestones while being freemium. The idea of the testimonials being that even if someone gets nominated and is premium at the time, having other players back up the claim that they were freemium when they played each other would confirm it. I'd actually be more concerned that someone who was premium then lapses over to freemium and gets nominated based on a mistake (or intentionally deciet).

Well, if anyone on the inside can post up with whether or not there's another way to confirm - like I PM you saying XXX is nominated... can you confirm (s)he was at the time freemium? and someone with those records gets back to me with an authoritative response? Otherwise I admit it's going to be tough to confirm.

OK, so maybe I wont ignore it...

So, I've gotten into it with people about those who play for free and their "importance" to the site. I also understand why Lack allows limited gaming on the site for free. Yes, they do increase the amount of players so there's more games. However, one has to assume that the primary purpose of allowing free use of the site is to turn people on to it so they might decide to start paying him for his work.

To translate that to my industry, it's like places giving out free grub at happy hour or even donating gift certificates to charity auctions. Giving away free goods to lure in new customers.

This, however, doesn't change the fact that those who decide they like the site and yet decide not to pay are not entirely unlike those who go to the same place for happy hour every night, load up on nachos and wings and then nurse a diet coke. These people will also argue that they're doing their part by making the bar look busy and thus, more exciting to others. However, in reality, they're just sort of exploiting somebody's attempt at generating more business.

So, are we seriously talking about a HOF or mooches? More importantly are you seriously inferring that making a high rank playing freemium is somehow more noble than not. You certainly seem to be by saying all the ways those who can play unlimited games can cheese their way to a high rank. Ironic, that somebody who's happy not to pay someone for a service they enjoy would suggest this.

Many of us literally cannot pay, or would not use a premium.

Personally I don't think I have time to play 20 games at once... being a freemium is fine with me.

Why does somebody have to be nominated though? In the other high score threads the community keeps track and reports the top scores. I say that we are eligible for the high score list if our freemium high score is at least 100 more than our premium high score. That way someone can't have their premium expire and win a game just to get on the list.

That being said, I would like to nominate myself, my high score being 1861.

And many of us are not fully independent adults. I could afford it, but I wouldn't use it enough for it to be worth it. I know many people who couldn't afford it without giving up something more important.

Why a minimum # of games?

And why 50% min win ratio?

It is much more difficult to get a high score with a low win ratio...
therefore more 'noble', n'est pas?

And while you're thinking it through....

Just a thought - does getting a premium at any time permanently disabuse you of freemium-ship? It seems to me that just because somebody gets a premium (something to be encouraged) their accomplishments before getting it shouldn't be forgotten. Also, does this list include players who let their premiums expire? At least one inquiring mind wants to know.

Actually, I can buy the "some people can't afford it" story but not so much the "don't use it enough to be worth it". At least not in most cases and certainly not yours. You've played 55 games in a year. Had you paid, each game would have cost you less than fifty cents. I know of pretty much nothing that is remotely entertaining that costs fifty cents a pop.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think this is any grave sin. Rather, nothing to be particularly proud of. Considering the OP intimated that getting to the top of the ranks by going premium is basically taking the easy way...

I would also like to make a suggestion to anyone who spends any remotely significant amount of time here and can't afford $2/month. Maybe instead of trying to figure out how to make page 1, you should get a freaking job.
