You should upgrade from Freemium as well.

I wouldn't see why his current Freemium couldn't be deleted so that he could take the name of his choosing for his Premium account. I've run a forum before and it took 10 seconds to delete a user account.

Unfortunately running a forum isn't very comparable to running a game with data. Lack avoids deleting users because old game files may be corrupted.

How do you guys deal with multiple accounts? Just leave them all active and ban the IP?

Surely there is a way to deactivate an account without deleting it from a database.

If not...sounds like spotty programming to me.

I would think it should be allowed to change to a perm name going from Freemium to Premium. Someone finds the site....doesn't put much thought into the name...signs up. Then they get addicted...wants to pay...but doesn't care for the name they just quickly, randomly thought up when they wanted to just check it out. $25 bucks should afford them that simple privilege.

And I'm just thinking in terms of moving from a non-pay to a pay account.

I like your idea but the thing is if they deleted old accounts, whether free or not, sometimes the already finished games could be corrupted because of this as the points gained/lost are tied to the name. By removing a name from the database you could potentially screw the system up because it could take with it the associated points, archived posts or possibly old games as a whole (if they started them).

At my company when someone leaves they can't delete their personnel file because of cross-references within the server, it could take much more info with it then just that person's personal info, they have to block the user but leave it in place so as to not remove records associated with it. Does that make it more clear? I'm terrible at explaining things....

I agree I was mistaken in my first post about deletion and the ramifications it could cause for cumulative data.

But you just quoted a post where I was replying to the deletion problem by countering with a deactivation solution.

Name is still there in the database...but it's privileges are removed rendering the account deactivated...but still in the archives/tables.
