Strategy Suggestions

Hey all, I am playing the board game version. I have played a hand full of games on conquer club and have won a few. I have, however, never been able to win at the board game. It's down to just 2 remaining players now, myself and my opponent. I am looking for suggestions on strategy.

I have 6 cards with 1 set to turn in. It is now my turn and I will turn in my set for 35 armies plus 5 for N America plus 6 for 20 territories for a total of 46 armies.

My opponent has 4 cards of which he may have a set for his next turn.

I am the green army in the image here.

TAKE South America.

secure it.

then sluice through Africa towards Oz.

but not necessarily on your next turn.

Deploy on iceland, use china to take india and mid east. Use the guys in iceland to take europe,africa and SA. DO NOT take siam. Fort everything you have to china and india. Spread them out evenly....

Reasoning- If he has a set, he'll smash through you, but he'll only have 35 men instead of 66 men to do it with. On your next turn, use which ever army he didnt kill (assuming he went for your bonuses) and take back what he took... try not to open up his men in indo. If he has 2 pair... you'll have spread 10+ men on china and india and he wont be able to take a card... he'll have to wait 1 more turn to take a card and you'll kill him with the continent bonuses.

Btw... if the forts are chained, try to distribute your men so that you will have the same amount of men on venez and india(dont advance to mid east) when you have finished attacking... leaving you to fort the men in venez to china.

edit: judging by the placement of your armies on the board atm, you're probs playing chained or adjacent forts. if it adjacent, deploy 24 on central and the rest on iceland. use the guys in central to take venez, then peru, then argentina, then brazil, then N africa, then congo, then S africa, then mad.... they'll probs be used up by then.... Use your guys in iceland to take europe and whats left in africa and asia... remember NOT TO take siam.

Hi Begbie, I have 6 cards because in my last turn I had 2 cards and by eliminating a player from the game I received that persons cards which was 3. At the end of my turn I took a card from the stack for taking a territory, bringing my total to 6.

Right, but you should have to turn in as soon as you make 5. Is the board game different?

the board game is the same i think where u have to cash when u get 5 cards but i could be wrong its been a while since i played it

See, I would have put the works on Cnetral America and wiped him out of everywhere, back to Siam (leaving that territory alone). That would trap his Indo armies there and make him fort them forward his next turn. You would still have 4 cards after your cash and end of turn (6-3+1) and would have the card advantage biug time to wipe him out whether he cashed or not.

it's all wrong...

you can't fit square pegs into round white circles

or is it round white circles into square holes??

The board game rules are different. The rule book states: "If winning them gives you 6 or more cards, you must immediately trade in enough sets to reduce your hand to 4 or fewer........."

Elimination of Opponents...there have been several official versions of this rule over the years, including one version that required you to have 6 cards before you could cash-in mid-turn, if you had only 5 cards after eliminating an opponent, you could NOT cash, which is amazing since you would END your turn with 6... listed in green is the Original and most prevalent version of this rule.

CC Rules - must have 5 or more cards to cash a set

Original Rules - any set can be cashed mid-turn, even if you have only 3 cards

IROTC Rules - same as Original Rules, 3 cards

Well, that went like clockwork. I split up my turn in placing in central america and iceland. I took my forces down through s. america all the way to madagascar in africa. Those armies were spent by then. I then took what was in iceland and finished the job all the way to india and not taking siam.

My opponent did have a turn in and he pretty much took back what I had taken from him. This prevented me from gaining armies for holding those continents but luckily I had another set of cards for my next turn and my opponent did not fortify up from indonesia. I placed my turn in once again in central america and drove right back down to india.

At this point my opponent gathered his 5 armies for oz placed them in siam and ended his turn without attacking and fortified his bulk from indonesia to siam. Now it's my turn again.

At this point I still have 12 armies in india and 15 armies in china. This time however I control n. america, s. america, africa and europe; this gave me an extra 15 armies. My territories gave me another 12 armies brining my total to 27. I place all these armies in india and started softening up siam from china. Once my armies in china were depleted I switched to india. The rest is history.
